How much does the 2020 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 3.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,202 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Mustang earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its power, fun driving experience, stylish looks, and seat comfort. The broad range of engine choices also comes through as a major strength, especially if you want a Mustang that fits different performance tastes.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard. That makes it a better fit if you care more about character, performance, and style than everyday practicality.

The Mustang’s heritage-driven appeal and modern performance focus make it especially compelling if you want a classic pony car feel rather than a crossover alternative. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car you can count on for strong performance, enjoyable driving, and a satisfying ownership experience over time. Reviewers also describe it as stylish and comfortable, which helps reinforce its appeal beyond just straight-line speed.

The expert review also emphasizes the Mustang’s durable enthusiast character and its ability to deliver both daily drivability and track-ready capability. That combination suggests a car built to handle repeated use without losing its appeal.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that satisfaction can depend heavily on how well the car was maintained and how hard it was driven.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Bullitt stands out with its Dark Highland Green look, subtle chrome accents, retro 19-inch wheels, serialized plaque, unique green stitching, and white cue-ball shifter knob. It also carries a higher price and some cheap interior plastics are harder to overlook at that level.
• Powertrain: The lineup spans a 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, a 460-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, and higher-output V8 variants, with manual, automatic, and dual-clutch transmissions depending on model.
• Safety package: The standard setup includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist, while blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are available with the optional Electronics Package. Advanced driver-assistance features are otherwise sparse.
• Infotainment: The car uses a recessed 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an available 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. The system is functional, but its age shows.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder EcoBoost returns 21 mpg city, 31 highway, and 25 combined. The Bullitt returns 14/23/17.

Which 2020 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Mustang is offered in 1 trim level: Bullitt.

Here's the short version:

The Bullitt is the standout choice if you want the Mustang’s nostalgic styling and special-edition character in one package. It adds the most distinctive look and feel in the lineup, along with the performance-focused hardware and manual-transmission personality that define this model year.

The safety package is limited overall, and advanced safety features are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,202 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,005, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $25,621 sits slightly below last year's $26,577.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to move a used Mustang quickly. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later.

The Mustang’s strong enthusiast appeal helps support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang safe?

The Mustang gets good crash-test ratings, for the most part, with a Good rating in most IIHS crashworthiness tests and an Acceptable rating for driver protection in a small overlap frontal-impact collision. In NHTSA testing, it earns five-star ratings in every test, including rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist, while blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are available with the optional Electronics Package. Advanced safety features are otherwise limited, so you should not expect a long list of driver-assistance tech.

The main caveat is that the car’s safety equipment is relatively sparse compared with many modern rivals, even though its crash-test results are strong.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its nostalgic Bullitt special edition and broad performance appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,519, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,621 average.
• It adds the Mach 1 trim and a more modernized lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a more favorable shopping environment, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year with added trim variety, the 2021 is the better secondary path.
