Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty a good car?

It’s a strong fit if you want a heavy-duty truck with broad configuration choices, serious capability, and updated mechanical options, though you should expect some compromises in refinement. The user rating is 3/5, and the expert rating is 8.17/10.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

The overview points to a truck that can serve worksite duty or broader everyday use, and the expert notes back that up with multiple body styles, multiple powertrain options, and a new 7.3-liter V8 for 2020. The trade-offs are clear: the styling is uninspired, and the touchscreen response is sluggish.

That mix makes the F-350 appealing if your priorities are versatility and capability rather than polish. With 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty reliable?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is built around heavy-duty work, and the expert notes emphasize that all engines make more than enough power for the job. The 7.3-liter gas V8 and 6.7-liter diesel both pair with the 10-speed automatic, which helps keep the truck’s mechanical setup current for the year.

The expert also points out that the diesel can return as much as 19 or even 20 mpg on the highway, while the 6.2-liter gas engine averages around 11.5 mpg and the 7.3-liter gas engine returns around 11 to 14 mpg. That gives you a useful spread depending on how you plan to use the truck.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a truck that has been worked hard without enough maintenance history to match.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because heavy-duty trucks are often used hard and modified for specific jobs. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear from towing, hauling, and off-road use, along with the condition of the drivetrain, suspension, and interior controls.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the most basic work-truck setup, with vinyl seats, manual climate control, a 2.3-inch instrument panel menu screen, and a basic stereo. The XLT adds more everyday usability with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cloth seats, and more convenience features, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 6.2-liter gas V8, a new 7.3-liter gas V8, or a 6.7-liter turbodiesel Power Stroke V8. The 10-speed automatic is standard with the 7.3-liter gas engine and the diesel, while the 6.2-liter can use either a six-speed or available 10-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The standard setup includes airbags, automatic high beams, traction control, and tire pressure monitoring. The XLT adds automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage. Lariat adds reverse sensing, while Platinum adds adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering.
• Infotainment: SYNC 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports wireless-free smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a straightforward menu layout and a Home icon for easier navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: Owners report around 11.5 mpg with the 6.2-liter gas engine, around 11 to 14 mpg with the 7.3-liter gas engine, and as much as 19 or even 20 mpg on the highway with the diesel.

Which 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most work-focused version, with the simplest cabin and the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability and don’t need much comfort or tech.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and key safety upgrades while staying more affordable than the luxury trims.
• Lariat: This trim is the bridge between work and luxury, adding leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, power front seats, and power-adjustable pedals.
• King Ranch: This one leans upscale with unique two-tone styling, saddle-style leather, ambient lighting, and a memory system for the seats and pedals.
• Platinum: This trim adds heated-and-ventilated seats, massaging front seats, and more premium exterior details.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice, with power-retractable running boards, a panoramic dual-panel sunroof, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The XLT is the trim most buyers should start with, while the higher trims make sense if you want more luxury and convenience. Safety equipment expands as you move up the lineup, with the XLT bringing the key driver-assistance features.

• Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,495 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.09% compared with last year.

What is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $45,954 sits slightly below last year's $48,934.

That decline suggests the truck has softened in the market, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained.

Because this is a heavy-duty truck with broad configuration choices, well-equipped examples may hold appeal better than stripped-down work trucks. The current pricing trend also means future sellers may need to be more competitive if the market stays soft.

Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty safe?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes a full array of airbags, automatic high beams, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The XLT adds automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage.

Higher trims add more advanced protection and convenience: Lariat brings reverse sensing, King Ranch adds Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and Platinum adds adaptive cruise control, adaptive steering, and upgraded quad-beam LED headlights. The Limited includes those features as standard equipment.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.09% compared with last year.
• It adds a new 7.3-liter V8 and a Tremor off-road package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $49,661, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $45,954 average.
• It brings a refresh with broader powertrain, technology, design, and capability updates.

The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the lower average price and still want the updated engine lineup and Tremor availability. If you’re willing to spend more for the refreshed model, the 2021 is the better path; if price matters most, the 2020 is the smarter buy.
