The expert review also emphasizes that the cabin is built with durability in mind, which supports the idea that this truck is meant to take regular use in stride. What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-150?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a full ownership and accident record. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear from towing, hauling, and daily use, since this truck was built to do all three. Pay close attention to cabin condition and feature operation, especially if you want a truck that feels more polished than a basic work model.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the work-truck starting point with steel wheels, air conditioning, manual locks, a small driver display, and standard forward automatic emergency braking. The XLT adds SYNC 3, a WiFi hotspot, cruise control, chrome exterior touches, and 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, while the Lariat brings leather-trimmed seats, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, and power heated and cooled front seats. The King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited add more luxury, off-road, or premium-cabin equipment, but the base trim is the one most likely to feel sparse.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. The base V6 is fine for daily driving, but the turbo V6s, V8, and turbodiesel are the better choices if you plan to tow or haul regularly.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 can include automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Some of those features are standard or available only on higher trims, so check carefully before assuming a used truck has the full suite.
• Infotainment: The XL can be equipped with a basic touchscreen system, while the XLT gets an 8-inch SYNC 3 screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, enhanced voice recognition, pinch-to-zoom map functionality, and smart-charging USB ports. FordPass with remote functions and a 4G WiFi modem is also part of the higher-trim tech story.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel with rear-wheel drive returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined, while the V8 returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined. The Raptor is the least efficient at 15 mpg city, 18 highway, 16 combined.

Which 2020 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable starting point, and it makes sense if you want a straightforward work truck with standard safety basics and the ability to add more tech later. It is the trim to choose if price matters most and you do not need luxury features.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, and more exterior polish without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more comfortable daily driver, since it adds leather-trimmed seats, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, and push-button start.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more distinctive upscale cabin, with saddle-leather upholstery, special stitching, a premium sound system, heated rear seats, and a remote release tailgate.
• Platinum: This trim leans into premium comfort with chrome accents, LED bed lighting and fog lamps, power outlets, ambient lighting, and massaging front seats.
• Raptor: This is the off-road-focused choice, with a wider body, lifted suspension, Fox Racing Shox, skid plates, and terrain-specific drive modes.
• Limited: This is the top luxury pick, with 22-inch polished wheels, premium leather upholstery, a dual-panel moonroof, and satin-finish exterior details.

The XL includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, and higher trims can add more of Ford Co-Pilot360.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,757 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,817, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $27,817 sits slightly below last year's $30,243.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to help buyers now, but it also means future sellers may face more competition if pricing stays soft. If you buy at a favorable number and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to resell. Trucks with broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction usually hold buyer interest better than niche vehicles.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew trucks received five-star ratings from NHTSA, while the SuperCab and regular cab managed four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford makes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking standard, including on the XL trim. Ford Co-Pilot360 can add automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The base XL can also be equipped with a reverse sensing system, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist is available for easier towing.

The crash-test split matters if you are comparing cab styles, because the SuperCrew performed better than the SuperCab and regular cab in NHTSA testing.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 combines comfortable road manners with strong towing and hauling capability.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $25,789, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,817 average.
• It is a familiar, proven full-size pickup with broad usefulness.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,192, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,817 average.
• It adds a redesigned interior, more technology, and an available hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, capability, and everyday comfort, the 2020 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money while still delivering the core F-150 formula. If you want newer tech and do not mind paying more, the 2021 is the upgrade path to consider.
