The Chevrolet Spark is an entry-level subcompact car. It carries over with no updates of note for 2020. It competes with the likes of the Nissan Versa and Kia Rio. Beneath the Spark’s diminutive shape, there’s room for four people. It offers 11.1 cubic feet of cargo space, but you can fold the rear seat to increase that to 27.2 cubic feet. The Spark’s only engine is a 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder unit with 98 horsepower and 94 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed manual comes standard across all trims, but you can upgrade to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All Sparks are front-wheel drive (FWD). Fuel-economy numbers stand at 29 mpg city, 38 highway, and 33 combined with the manual transmission or 30/38/33 with the CVT. Chevrolet spreads the Spark’s options across LS, 1LT, Activ, and 2LT trims. The LS includes 15-inch steel wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a 4-speaker audio system, 4G LTE WiFi hotspot capability, and two USB ports. The 1LT trim tacks on 15-inch alloy wheels, power windows, power locks, keyless entry, cruise control, a 6-speaker audio system, power mirrors, and satellite radio. The Activ comes with unique roof rails, wheels, and bumpers. It also receives rugged lower side moldings, a special grille, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated black leatherette upholstery for the front seats. Finally, the 2LT trim gets full leatherette upholstery, keyless access and start, heated front seats, an enhanced instrument cluster, and chrome exterior trim. A reversing camera comes standard on every trim, while reversing sensors come standard with the 2LT trim. Forward-collision warning, low-speed forward automatic braking, and lane-departure warning come with the Driver Confidence Package. The Spark has not undergone a complete round of crash testing from either the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
