Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for this heavy-duty pickup. The 2020 Silverado 3500HD is built around serious towing and hauling, with maximum capability that reaches 36,000 pounds and payload up to 7,290 pounds, so it fits best if you need a truck that puts work first. It also offers multiple cab and bed combinations, available four-wheel drive, dual-rear-wheel setups, and useful trailering tech, which makes it easier to tailor to demanding jobs. 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 Silverado 3500HD is described as a serious heavy-duty truck with a strong mix of power, utility, and technology, but its cabins have also been criticized for being too basic compared with some rivals. Chevrolet also notes that some 2020, 2021, and 2022 trucks were built without features they might otherwise have received during the supply-chain crisis, so equipment verification matters. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck that has missing features or a hard-work history that wasn’t documented clearly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

At 74% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for prior collision repairs, frame or suspension issues, and signs of heavy towing wear. Focus closely on condition, equipment completeness, and whether the truck matches the configuration and features you expect, especially because some trucks from this period may have been built without certain items.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s-market discount.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 681 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $43,285, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $43,306 sits slightly below last year's $45,999.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean future resale gains are limited unless you choose a well-equipped, well-kept example. Because heavy-duty trucks are often judged on condition, configuration, and documented use, a clean history and desirable setup can matter a lot when you eventually sell. Trucks that have been maintained carefully and kept in strong cosmetic and mechanical shape should hold buyer interest better than rougher work trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $47,103, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $43,306 average.
• It emphasizes everyday usability alongside heavy-duty capability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid deal availability. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and want a truck that leans harder into all-around daily usability, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
