About 2020 Chevrolet Express Cargo
Overview

Chevrolet’s Express Cargo van is a 1- to 5-passenger work vehicle used by contractors, workers, and others who need to haul heavy payloads or tools to worksites. It comes in a single trim level (Work Truck or WT for short), two payload configurations (2500 and 3500) capable of hauling between 3,060 and 4,250 pounds, and two wheelbases—135.2 and 155.1 inches.
Three engines are available. The base engine is a 4.3-liter V6 rated at 276 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque. A turbodiesel 2.8-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque is also offered. Both are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 6.0-liter V8 fueled by gasoline, compressed natural gas, or propane is optional and is rated at either 341 hp. It’s mated exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Every Chevy Express Cargo van has rear-wheel drive (RWD) and comes with a 3.42:1 axle ratio. Tow ratings vary by configuration between 6,000 and 10,000 pounds.
The Express Cargo comes standard with an AM/FM audio system with an MP3 player. And though it’s certainly a no-frills work van, Chevy saw fit to supply 4G LTE WiFi connectivity as standard equipment. Also included are air conditioning as well as 12-volt and 120-volt power outlets. With only one trim level offered, an abundance of optional equipment is available, including Bluetooth, remote start, and keyless entry. Other available safety features include forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. The Express Cargo comes standard with only front windows but can be configured with various combinations of glass on its sides and rear doors.
Chevy offers a host of accessories allowing owners to customize the Express Cargo to their specific work needs. Those include two roof racks, a cargo management system, and a cargo box for the payload area. Trailering accessories include a hitch, a variety of receivers, a wiring harness, and a brake controller. A 94-piece hand-tool kit is even available.
More modern competitors, all of which offer a high roof that permits standing inside, include the Ford Transit cargo van, Nissan NV cargo van, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter crew van. The Express’s low roof puts it at a disadvantage relative to these more versatile and only marginally more costly rivals.
