Who Makes Chevrolet Cars?

Chevrolet was founded in 1911 in Detroit, Michigan, and has been a division of General Motors (GM) since 1918. Although the ownership and structure of GM has changed numerous times over the years, and Chevrolet cars continue to be built and sold in many other countries, it remains an American company with its headquarters in Detroit. As well as a number of factories in the US, Chevrolet currently produces cars for various markets at GM plants in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Mexico and South Korea.

What Sort of Vehicles Does Chevrolet Make?

Like most large-scale manufacturers, the current Chevrolet lineup is dominated by SUVs. Its compact SUV range comprises the Trax and Trailblazer, while it offers the Equinox and Blazer models in the midsize category. The current large SUV range consists of the Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban models. Chevy’s truck range isn’t as large, but it offers the midsize Colorado and the Silverado range of larger trucks that includes the Silverado, Silverado HD and Silverado EV.

The long-running Malibu is the only sedan that Chevrolet currently sells new in the US. The even-longer-running Chevrolet Corvette sports car is its only other non-SUV or truck model. The standard model is the Corvette Stingray, or there’s the high-performance Corvette Z06. There’s a high-powered hybrid variant called Corvette E-Ray, while the hyper-quick Corvette ZR1 is due to go on sale in summer 2025.

Chevrolet previously produced bespoke EVs in the form of the Bolt EV and Volt, but these were discontinued in 2019 and 2024 respectively. Today its pure-electric cars are the Equinox EV, Blazer EV and Silverado EV.
