Used 2020 BMW Z4 for Sale nearSilver Spring, MD

How much does the 2020 BMW Z4 cost?

Prices are up 1.48% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 97 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 BMW Z4 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 BMW Z4 earns 4.71/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the performance, handling, smooth transmission, and comfortable seats. That lines up with the Z4’s use case as a small luxury roadster for you if driving enjoyment matters more than everyday tech polish.

The main trade-off is outdated technology, and the expert review also points to some road noise from the soft top. Even so, the Z4’s appeal is strongest if you want a focused, fun-to-drive convertible rather than the latest gadget-heavy cabin.

Good and great deals account for 32.0% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 BMW Z4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to you: strong performance, smooth operation, comfortable seating, and a driving experience that owners clearly trust and enjoy over time. The expert review also reinforces that this is a well-sorted roadster with a polished powertrain and a cohesive driving character.

The cost-effectiveness review also frames the Z4 as a strong value relative to similarly positioned roadsters, which can matter when you’re thinking about long-term ownership confidence. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car has been maintained carefully and kept in good condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW Z4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the soft top, electronics, and any signs of wear from spirited driving. Condition matters a lot here, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or driven as a weekend toy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base sDrive30i gives you a more affordable entry point with a 10.24-inch touchscreen, navigation, HD Radio, and Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto is missing. The M40i adds the inline-6 character and more standard equipment, making it the better fit if you want the stronger performance identity this Z4 is known for.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The M40i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 with 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, and the expert review says it reaches 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with emergency braking and traffic-sign recognition. The Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning, while the Convenience package adds rear cross-traffic alert, an automatic parking system, satellite radio, adaptive cruise, and smartphone key pairing.
• Infotainment: The base setup centers on a 10.24-inch touchscreen with BMW iDrive, navigation, HD Radio, and 20GB of storage. Apple CarPlay is offered, but Android Auto is missing, and the expert review notes that the tech experience is one of the car’s weaker points.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4-cylinder engine is described as a fun, eager power plant that can get to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds, but no MPG figure is stated.

Which 2020 BMW Z4 trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW Z4 is offered in 2 trim levels: sDrive30i and sDriveM40i.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the Z4 experience at the lower starting price. You still get the core luxury-roadster equipment, including the 10.24-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, and a strong list of convenience features, but you give up the inline-6 character that defines the top trim.
• sDriveM40i: This is the one to buy if you want the Z4 at its best. It brings the inline-6 engine, the Track Handling package, and more standard luxury and performance content, making it the clear pick for buyers who care most about the car’s personality and pace.

The safety package is optional rather than standard, so you should look closely at whether a given car has the Driving Assistance or Convenience package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW Z4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when the right car appears.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 97 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.48% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 75.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,332, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW Z4's resale value?

The current average of $36,255 sits slightly above last year's $35,727.

That upward move suggests the Z4 has held demand reasonably well, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A model year with a clear enthusiast identity and a strong performance reputation can stay appealing to used buyers, especially when the car is still priced within a relatively tight range.

For you, that means a well-kept example should remain easier to move than a less distinctive convertible. The strongest resale prospects will usually come from cars with clean history, desirable equipment, and the better-performing trim.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW Z4 safe?

The redesigned BMW Z4 has yet to be tested by the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include frontal collision warning with emergency braking and traffic-sign recognition. You can add blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning with the Driving Assistance package, or rear cross-traffic alert, an automatic parking system, satellite radio, adaptive cruise, and smartphone key pairing with the Convenience package.

The expert review also notes relatively poor rear visibility with the top up, and the wind deflector can make rearward visibility more difficult with the top down. That means you should pay close attention to visibility and driver-assistance equipment when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW Z4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.48% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The inline-6 returns in the M40i trim, restoring the Z4’s stronger performance identity for this model year.

The bottom line: If you want the Z4 with its most compelling engine story and a strong enthusiast feel, the 2020 is the one to target. If your priority is saving money, a nearby year with similar equipment may still make sense, but you should compare condition, options, and price closely before deciding.
