How much does the 2020 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,160 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong shopper satisfaction. The 2020 BMW 5 Series sits in the G30 generation, which moved the model toward a more comfortable luxury-sedan character without giving up its performance roots. You also get a broad range of powertrains, so you can prioritize efficiency, all-weather traction, or stronger straight-line performance depending on the trim you choose. For shoppers who want a refined, well-equipped midsize luxury sedan with real performance credibility, it fits that brief well. 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 model year is described as having a better reliability record than the earlier F10 generation, which is encouraging if you want a used luxury sedan with a more reassuring ownership profile. That said, you should still expect the usual used-luxury-car maintenance considerations, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Long-term ownership risk is lower when you buy a well-documented example and stay ahead of maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 5 Series?

At 69% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on suspension, steering, brakes, and electronics, since those are the areas where condition differences can matter most on a used luxury sedan. Focus on overall maintenance quality and signs of wear, not just mileage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate market where selective buyers can still find value if they shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,160 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,758, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $25,227 sits slightly below last year's $27,374.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter more because buyers tend to reward clean history and strong maintenance records. A well-kept example should hold appeal better than one with gaps in service or accident history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $28,490, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,227 average.
• It adds a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a bigger infotainment touchscreen.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with solid satisfaction and broad inventory. If you’re willing to spend more for a fresher feel and updated tech, the 2021 is the better secondary path.
