Is the 2020 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Generally — the 2020 BMW 4 Series earns a 4.3/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its power, agility, and design, and many also like the hardtop convertible setup and the way it performs on the road. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium coupe or convertible with a more distinctive look and a performance-focused feel. With 38.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its performance and overall ownership experience. That said, used luxury cars can become costly if maintenance has been deferred, so a careful service-history review matters. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a poorly maintained example rather than the model itself.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 4 Series?

At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus your evaluation on overall condition, signs of past bodywork, and whether the car has been maintained consistently.

What is the 2020 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $23,079 sits slightly below last year's $24,563.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and sell later. If demand stays steady, a lower entry price can make it easier to recover a reasonable share of your purchase cost. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support future buyer interest.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,011, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,079 average.
• It brings a redesigned, more luxurious, more technology-focused look.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines lower pricing with solid owner satisfaction. If you care more about newer styling and a more upscale feel, the 2021 is the better alternative, but you should expect to pay more.
