Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series a good car?

The 4 Series is aimed at you if you want a coupe or convertible that feels more luxurious and tech-focused than the older formula. Its handling and technology are clear strengths, and it comes in both coupe and convertible body styles.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 4 Series is described as impressively refined and user friendly, which supports the case for everyday dependability. Its standard warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles, and BMW includes four years of free roadside assistance.

The powertrain lineup is straightforward, with an eight-speed automatic and turbocharged engines that should be familiar to used-car shoppers. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is paying luxury-car maintenance and repair costs without getting standout value in return.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 4 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has optional performance or technology equipment. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 430i emphasizes the standard luxury-coupe formula, while the M440i adds more performance-oriented hardware and is the better fit if you want the strongest capability. The base setup already includes standard LED headlights and taillights, front sport seats with 10-way power adjustment and driver’s memory, paddle shifters, and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The 430i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque. The M440i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt starter/generator for better fuel efficiency. An eight-speed automatic is the only transmission.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Adaptive cruise control requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which also adds steering assist and stop-and-go capability.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses an 8.8-inch touchscreen and a 5.1-inch instrument display. The optional Live Cockpit Professional setup upgrades to a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control is included.
• Fuel efficiency: The RWD 430i is rated at 26 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The AWD 430i xDrive is rated at 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

Which 2021 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 430i and M440i.

Here's the short version:

• 430i: This is the trim to target if you want the best value. It gives you the core 4 Series experience with the turbocharged four-cylinder, strong standard tech, and the same basic luxury-coupe character without stepping into the pricier performance setup.
• M440i: Choose this if you want the stronger engine and the more performance-focused hardware that comes with it. It suits you best if you care more about acceleration and added capability than keeping the purchase price down.

The safety package is solid, but adaptive cruise control is not standard and requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package.

• Inventory: There are 651 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.

What is the 2021 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $32,011 sits slightly below last year's $34,456.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because this model still draws interest from shoppers who want style and technology, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes redesigned styling, stronger luxury focus, and technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,369, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,011 average.
• It adds a Gran Coupe body style with easier rear-seat access.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because prices are lower and inventory is healthy. If you need easier rear-seat access and can spend more, the 2022 is the better fit.
