How much does the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon cost?

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is positioned as a stylish alternative to the usual crossover SUV formula, with a roomy cabin and practical cargo flexibility. The expert assessment also highlights its fun-to-drive character and strong value proposition, so it fits you well if you want everyday usefulness without the typical SUV look.

The main trade-off is the technology experience, which is described as unintuitive. That means you may appreciate the design and driving feel more than the interface.

The market shows 34.7% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Arteon is described as practical, comfortable, and well suited to everyday use, with expert commentary emphasizing its strong value and broad usefulness. It also brings all-wheel drive for foul-weather traction, which can make it a reassuring choice if you want a car that handles varied conditions well.

The performance notes point to a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, an 8-speed automatic, and a chassis that feels composed and enjoyable in normal driving. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to better gas mileage than a typical SUV, which helps reduce day-to-day ownership strain.

If you buy used, your biggest long-term risk is making sure the car’s condition and maintenance history match its upscale feel and complex equipment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volkswagen Arteon?

At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on how the technology, brakes, suspension, and interior controls feel in real use, since the car’s appeal depends heavily on its overall condition and equipment working properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car gets the core styling and practicality, while SEL adds navigation, Digital Cockpit, and adaptive headlights. SEL Premium adds parking steering assist, a surround-view camera, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist, so the lower trims leave you without some of the most helpful convenience and safety upgrades.
• Powertrain: The Arteon uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available for added traction.
• Safety package: Every Arteon includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. SEL adds adaptive headlights, while SEL Premium adds automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Car-Net App Connect with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Mirror Link, plus a proximity-sensing display. Navigation is standard with SEL, and SEL Premium is required for the top-tier parking and camera tech.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned 23.9 mpg in combined driving, and the car is described as delivering better gas mileage than a typical SUV.

Which 2019 Volkswagen Arteon trim should I buy?

The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Premium.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point if you want the Arteon’s style, roomy hatchback practicality, standard Car-Net App Connect, and the core driver-assistance features without paying for extras you may not need.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim if you want the most useful upgrades for daily life, including navigation, Digital Cockpit, and adaptive headlights, while still staying below the top trim’s price.
• SEL Premium: Choose this if you want the most complete equipment set, including parking steering assistant, a surround-view camera, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Car-Net subscription services are tied to SEL and SEL Premium, so that’s worth factoring in if connected features matter to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volkswagen Arteon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 95 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,111, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon's resale value?

The current average of $18,700 sits slightly below last year's $19,427.

That downward movement suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make future resale a little more competitive if you sell soon. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less room for depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to the earlier average.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon safe?

The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon earns a Poor rating from IIHS headlight testing, which keeps it from earning a Top Safety Pick rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Arteon includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. SEL adds adaptive headlights, while SEL Premium adds automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

The main caveat is the headlight performance, which is the standout weakness in the safety package. If you’re shopping used, that makes trim choice and lighting performance especially important to evaluate.

Should I buy a 2019 Volkswagen Arteon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out as a stylish, practical alternative to the crossover SUV formula, with strong value and a fun-to-drive personality.

The bottom line: If you want the Arteon’s distinctive styling, roomy hatchback utility, and strong value, the 2019 is a compelling used buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained example you can find rather than chasing the cheapest listing, because condition and equipment matter a lot on this car.
