Used 2021 Volkswagen Arteon for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon cost?

Prices have softened 7.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 107 listings available, which gives you a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon earns 5/5 from users and 8/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It stands out as Volkswagen’s flagship sedan, with upgraded styling, interior finishes, connectivity, and driver assistance that give it a near-luxury feel. It also offers plenty of cargo space and keeps pricing below $50,000, so you get a premium presentation without stepping into a full luxury badge.

The trade-offs are that it is described as poor value for money and poor fuel economy, so you should weigh the style and refinement against those drawbacks. Even so, 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Arteon is positioned as a refined, well-equipped flagship sedan, and its expert evaluation emphasizes upgraded materials, strong cabin quality, and a broad set of driver-assistance features. Its performance notes also point to a powertrain that is up to the task of moving the car confidently, with a chassis tuned for comfort and stability.

It also includes standard automatic post-collision braking, which can help reduce further damage after an impact. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its upscale positioning may not fully protect resale value over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen Arteon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a full records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on exterior condition, interior wear, and the operation of the car’s tech and safety systems. Since this model is positioned as a premium-feeling sedan, condition matters a lot when you compare examples.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE is front-wheel drive only, while the SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The base trim leaves out some of the higher-end comfort and convenience features found on the upper trims.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard on lower trims, while all-wheel drive is available or standard depending on trim.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. Available systems on higher trims include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, park distance control, high beam control, travel assist, emergency assist, and dynamic road-sign display.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 10-inch Digital Cockpit display, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth, HD radio, SiriusXM, and Car-Net app features. Higher trims add a premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Arteon is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined for front-wheel-drive models, with AWD versions rated at 20 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Volkswagen Arteon trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the Arteon’s design, cabin quality, and standard tech without paying for the upper-trim extras. It is the value play in the lineup, especially if you want the lowest starting price and can live with front-wheel drive only.
• SEL R-Line: This trim adds a more upscale equipment mix and is the better choice if you want a stronger balance of features and price. It is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to more available safety and convenience equipment without jumping all the way to the top model.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the most fully equipped version, with AWD standard and the richest comfort and convenience content. Choose it if you want the most premium Arteon experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety-package note: the available driver-assistance systems are standard on SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line, while the SEL Premium R-Line adds park assist, rear park distance control, and an overhead view camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen Arteon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping more than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 107 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,941, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon's resale value?

The current average of $20,941 sits slightly below last year's $22,743.

That price movement suggests the Arteon has softened, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favorable if you are thinking about future trade-in value. Because the model is positioned as a premium-feeling Volkswagen, its resale performance will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level.

If you buy one well and keep it in strong shape, you may be able to offset some of the depreciation pressure. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon safe?

The 2021 Arteon was recently awarded a Top Safety Pick+ rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen equips it with a broad safety suite that includes eight airbags, anti-lock braking, tire pressure monitoring, electronic stability control, automatic post-collision braking, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. Higher trims add adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, park distance control, high beam control, travel assist, emergency assist, dynamic road-sign display, park assist, rear park distance control, and an overhead view camera.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen Arteon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings upgraded styling, interior finishes, connectivity, and driver assistance.

Consider the 2022 if:

• It adds a more expressive design and newfound performance capability.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want a well-equipped Arteon at a softer used price and value the current-year mix of style, tech, and safety. If you are more focused on the newest version of the car’s character and can spend more, the 2022 is the alternative to compare.
