How much does the 2019 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices are up 2.71% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 332 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, quiet interior, and comfort for daily driving. They also highlight its reliability and the savings on gas, which fits a car that’s meant to be a practical daily driver. The overview also points to strong value for money, efficiency, and safety, while noting that the design is still polarizing and the technology can feel dated.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to reliability, and the expert cost-effectiveness commentary says the Prius has historically proven reliable and trouble-free. That same assessment also emphasizes its practical ownership appeal, which is reinforced by the car’s strong fuel economy and everyday usability. The expert notes that the Prius is a cost-effective solution and that ownership makes logical and financial sense.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Prius’ core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy daily use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and signs that the hybrid system or safety equipment may have been repaired after an incident. Because this model is often bought for commuting, also pay attention to interior wear and whether the car still feels tight and well cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L Eco to Limited, and the base setup is the most stripped-down. The Limited trim adds the most upscale equipment, while the XLE and Limited get the 17-inch wheels mentioned in the expert review.
• Powertrain: A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine works with an electric motor for 121 horsepower. An optional electric AWD system adds a rear motor and lowers fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a CD player. The Limited trim gets an 11.6-inch display with navigation, the Entune App Suite, a premium JBL sound system, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: A standard front-drive Prius gets 52 mpg in combined driving, or 56 mpg in L Eco trim. The AWD-e version gets 50 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it makes the most sense if your top priority is maximizing fuel economy at the lowest entry price.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds useful safety upgrades like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.
• XLE: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay more for added comfort and equipment.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the largest infotainment screen, navigation, JBL audio, and Safety Connect.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every trim, while LE adds extra driver-assistance features and Limited gets the most advanced tech package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 332 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.71% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,991, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $19,739 sits slightly above last year's $19,218.

That upward move suggests the Prius is holding value reasonably well for a used hybrid. Strong fuel economy, broad practicality, and a reputation for dependable ownership help keep buyer interest steady. The model’s value-oriented reputation also supports demand when you eventually decide to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2019 Toyota Prius earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star front passenger protection in a frontal-impact crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a Top Safety Pick rating, with small overlap front passenger frontal impact protection rated as Acceptable instead of Good.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every Prius and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors, while Limited also gets Safety Connect services.

The IIHS result is the main caveat to keep in mind, since the small overlap front passenger test is not rated as Good.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.71% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota revised the trim strategy and added an electric AWD option for 2019.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $21,118, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,739 average.
• It remains a benchmark hybrid with a stronger emphasis on versatility and technology.

The bottom line: Buy the 2019 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you can spend more and want the next model year’s broader hybrid appeal, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path.
