How much does the 2019 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices are up 5.90% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 353 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating, and our experts score it 7.3/10. The expert rating reflects a car that is practical, efficient, affordable, and safe, with decent driving manners. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Prius for its impressive fuel economy, quiet interior, comfort for daily driving, and helpful features. Reliability and gas savings also come through as recurring positives, which fits a car built to be easy to live with.

The trade-offs are clear: the styling is polarizing, and the technology is described as outdated. That makes the Prius especially appealing if you want a commuter-friendly hybrid that prioritizes value and everyday usefulness over flash.

Only 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards shoppers who move quickly on well-priced examples.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Reviews also point to reliability, and the expert write-up says the Prius has historically proven reliable and trouble-free. That same cost-effectiveness discussion reinforces the idea that this is a car you can count on for efficient, low-drama ownership.

The performance notes also support that dependability theme by describing the Prius as a no-hassle daily driver that you can simply get in and drive. Toyota’s cost-effectiveness commentary adds that ownership makes logical and financial sense, which matters if you want a used hybrid with a reputation for staying easy to live with.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Prius’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by age or mileage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and any signs of prior bodywork or neglected upkeep, since a clean-looking listing is not always a clean-history listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L Eco to Limited, and the base trim is the most stripped-down choice. Higher trims add more convenience and tech, while the Limited brings the most upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder hybrid setup makes 121 horsepower. The optional electric AWD system adds a rear motor for extra traction, but it also reduces fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a CD player. The Limited gets an 11.6-inch display with navigation, the Entune App Suite, a premium JBL sound system, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: A standard front-drive Prius gets 52 mpg combined, while the L Eco trim reaches 56 mpg combined. The AWD-e version drops to 50 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and the strongest fuel economy.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• XLE: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel and more available equipment, especially if you value comfort and convenience over bare-bones efficiency.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the largest infotainment screen, navigation, JBL audio, and Safety Connect, so it suits you if you want the most tech and luxury in the Prius lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, while LE and above add extra driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings before committing.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 353 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 5.90% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,991, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $20,087 sits slightly above last year's $18,967.

That upward move suggests the Prius has held buyer interest well, which is a positive sign if you plan to resell later. A model year with steady demand and a relatively tight price band can be easier to move when it’s time to sell.

The Prius also benefits from a value-oriented reputation, and that tends to support used-market interest over time. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance current, you should have a better shot at preserving resale appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2019 Toyota Prius earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though front passenger protection in a frontal-impact crash measures four-star.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and an Intelligent Clearance Sonar system with front and rear sensors plus parking assist.

The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap front passenger result, which is rated Acceptable rather than Good. That does not erase the Prius’s strong overall safety picture, but it is worth keeping in mind when you compare used examples.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 5.90% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 adds a revised trim strategy and an available electric all-wheel-drive option.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,718, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $20,087 average.
• It adds a broader hybrid appeal with a continued focus on versatility and available all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter target because it combines strong owner satisfaction with a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2020 is the cleaner alternative.

How does the 2019 Toyota Prius compare to the 2019 Honda Insight?

Our experts score the 2019 Toyota Prius 7.3/10 and the 2019 Honda Insight 7.8/10. The Insight edges ahead on expert score and power, while the Prius counters with stronger fuel economy and a larger used-market presence. If you want the more efficient and more widely available hybrid, the Prius is the stronger value play. If you want the newer-feeling alternative with a stronger powertrain, the Insight is worth a look.
