overall

Summary
With 204 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,637.00, 32.4% of 2019 Toyota Corollas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
69.6% of 2019 Corolla Hatchback models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
With the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, Toyota takes a big leap forward in small-car style and sophistication. It stands out as a more stylish, more sophisticated, and better-to-drive hatchback, and it also offers excellent value for money along with premium interior materials. Those strengths make it appealing to buyers who want a compact car that feels a little more upscale than its price might suggest.
The tradeoffs are just as clear. The 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is described as having fairly pedestrian performance, a cramped back seat, and not much cargo space. Owner feedback lines up with that basic picture, while also pointing to a smooth ride, great fuel economy, easy maneuverability, and a fun driving experience. For shoppers who prioritize efficiency, city-friendly size, and a polished cabin over outright space or speed, that combination gives the Corolla Hatchback a distinctive appeal.

Amazing Car, easy and comfortable to drive. Love it

Reviewed a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback on Sep 27, 2022
Rating is for SE Upgrade Edition (Canadian) (4.5 stars so I rounded up) We bought this car (used) as a commuter for me, and it was a downgrade from our main / previous car, a BMW. So there was a bit of a learning curve (nowhere near the zip, altogether different brakes) but the majority of cars Ive driven have been Toyota sedans / hatchbacks, so it felt very similar to those. Pluses: It is so compact and easy to park - I am a nervous driver, but find I am able to park in tight lots without too much stress. Fun to drive at a low price point (not just up front, but gas - it sips regular & maintenance is very reasonable). Zippy enough for my husband, who is more of a car guy. Fits me well (Im 57) and feels good when driving. My much larger husband (62, muscular build) fits and can drive it comfortably. SE Upgrade version has heated steering wheel (yay) and the nicer wheels. This model also has heated seats, backup camera, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, emergency braking, and probably some features Ive forgotten. Minuses: Very little cargo / passenger space. I took a road trip with 2 other people, and between us and our luggage, almost every available inch of the car was full (well, we didnt block the rear window). It may have 3 rear seats, but the passengers would all have to be quite small. It feels like less storage than our coupe BMW had. I have 2 family members with Honda Fits (2013 & 2016) and Fits have amazing cargo space in comparison. Not a lot of leg room for front passenger. There was a fuel pump recall, which the dealer took care of (but be aware and check the records). I find that it hesitates a little sometimes when trying to turn quickly from a stop or slow (like when trying to turn left or right when theres a gap in traffic). Im not sure if its just because the car is less powerful than our old one but Ive tried to change my driving techniques to make sure I look for larger gaps. Overall, this is not my dream car but it is the right car for me, and the car I can afford to drive and maintain at this time. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, inexpensive, fun vehicle.

Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the car’s smooth ride and compact size that make it easy to live with over time. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing Toyota’s reputation for durability and noting that the car is likely to last for a long time.
Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the car has been used hard or neglected, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?
At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car is priced near the low end of the market. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the car’s steering, brakes, or electronics have been stressed or repaired.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The car is offered in SE and XSE trim. The XSE adds more equipment and a more upscale feel, while the base trim keeps the price lower and still delivers the core design and practicality. If you want the best value, the XSE is the trim to compare closely because it brings more features without changing the car’s basic mission.
- Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 168 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed manual is standard, and the Dynamic Shift CVT is available if you want an automatic. The CVT is tuned to feel more responsive than a typical CVT, but the engine itself is still described as fairly pedestrian.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every Corolla Hatchback. It includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. Maximum adaptive cruise-control capability requires the CVT, and blind-spot warning is available, though it does not include rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is not included. The system also brings fast-charge USB ports, a connected navigation app, Wi-Fi Connect, Safety Connect, Siri Eyes Free, and Amazon Alexa integration.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert review notes 29.2 mpg on a test loop and references an EPA rating of 33 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and XSE.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the trim to consider if you want the lowest entry price and the core Corolla Hatchback experience. You still get the standard safety suite, the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and the 2.0-liter engine with a manual transmission. It makes sense if you value value first and foremost.
- XSE: This is the best-value trim if you want the more polished version of the car. It adds a richer cabin feel, more technology, and a more premium overall presentation, while still keeping the Corolla Hatchback’s efficiency and easy-to-live-with character. If you want the most complete version of this hatchback, this is the one to target.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and maximum adaptive cruise-control capability requires the CVT.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with patience and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 205 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.15% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,806.61, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback's resale value?
The current average of $17,690 sits slightly below last year's $18,078.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you plan to sell later because your entry price may be lower than it was a year ago. At the same time, the current market still shows steady demand, so a well-kept example should remain relatively easy to move.
Strong owner satisfaction also helps support future demand, especially for shoppers who value reliability, efficiency, and a polished cabin.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The expert review notes that the system generally works well, though the lane systems can occasionally issue false alerts and require driver override.
You can also get blind-spot warning, but it does not include rear cross-traffic alert, so the standard reversing camera remains important. Safety Connect is standard as well, with automatic collision notification and SOS emergency assistance included in a free 3-year trial.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.15% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says this year is more stylish, more sophisticated, and better to drive than the Corolla iM it replaces.
The bottom line: The 2019 is the right pick if you want the newer hatchback design, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has softened enough to create some buying opportunities. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for a clean, well-priced example near the low end of the range, because that’s where the best value is likely to show up.
