All ProMaster Cargo vans come with a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The V6 sends power to the front wheel through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The ProMaster's front-wheel drive (FWD) limits its maximum towing capacity, although Ram has increased that capability this year as well, pushing the maximum to 6,800 pounds. While it's a 30% increase over last year, it's still less than its rear-wheel-drive (RWD) competitors like the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana van. The interior of the ProMaster is utilitarian and rugged. Standard exterior features include 16-inch steel wheels, remote locking and unlocking, split-opening rear doors, manually adjustable mirrors, and a full-size spare tire. The ProMaster Cargo Van has not been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
