Nissan’s popular Rogue compact crossover SUV has been around for over a decade, but for 2017, Nissan introduced a model called the Rogue Sport, which featured smaller dimensions and a smaller engine. The latest Rogue Sport, which Nissan dubs a 2018.5 model, offers updates to its safety features: automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert now all come standard. The Rogue Sport is available in S, SV, and SL trims and comes standard in front-wheel drive (FWD) with all-wheel drive (AWD) available. The only engine available for the Rogue Sport is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that makes 141 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. FWD comes standard with AWD available for all three trims. All Rogue Sports also come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). With FWD, the Rogue Sport manages 25 mpg city, 32 highway, and 28 combined. With AWD, it drops slightly to 24, 30, 27. The S trim features cloth seats, a 4-speaker stereo, a 5.0-inch infotainment display screen, Bluetooth compatibility, and a USB port. Stepping up to the SV adds roof rails, keyless ignition, a 6-speaker stereo, power adjust for the driver’s seat, and automatic headlights. The SV trim also unlocks options like heated front seats and steering wheel, a leather-wrapped shifter, a larger 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, and some additional active safety features. The range-topping SL adds intelligent cruise control standard, along with 19-inch wheels, leather seats, and an available premium package that comes with a power moonroof and LED headlights. The Rogue Sport comes with 20 cubic feet of space behind the second row seats, and with those seats folded, the space opens to an impressive 53 cubic feet. In crash testing, the 2019 Rogue Sport gets four out of five stars overall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but hasn’t been fully tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Rogue Sport includes new safety technology and plenty of features for crossover shoppers looking for a good value, but it faces stiff competition from the Honda HR-V and the Hyundai Kona.
