So, you’re in the market for an affordable, efficient, and versatile vehicle. A small crossover makes perfect sense, right? The 2019 Nissan Kicks might hit the right marks on paper, but in practice, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Crossovers are the hottest-selling cars on the market, and with good reason. They offer added capability and versatility compared to the average economy car. The problem is, some automakers have tried to leverage the appeal of these vehicles without really offering increased practicality or performance. Give a hatchback a slight lift, slap extra plastic around the wheel wells and bumpers, and call it a day.

There are things I like about the Nissan Kicks, and there are things I hate. CarGurus has a recommended trim for the Kicks, but if you’re on the fence, you might be served just as well by a conventional hatchback like the Volkswagen Golf.

I love the fuel efficiency and the comfortable amount of passenger space and storage capacity available. I love the simple to navigate touch screen interface. It’s responsive and lively enough to keep up on the highways with ease and amazing on long drives.

The touch screen and backup camera are really good. Also the gas mileage is the best Ive seen even among sedans. The price is universally better than other comparable crossovers. It drives and feels like a rogue but much closer to the ground. The pickup speed is the only complaint. And 4wd isnt available. And the interior lights seem cheap and ineffective.

This SR model has every option possible. No GPS but the CarPlay and AndroidAuto make up for it. The only other small complaint is some of the door switches do not illuminate making them hard to locate at night. Well optioned and great safety features for this price point.
