CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Nissan Kicks
overall

Summary
With 926 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,037, 29.2% of 2019 Nissan Kicks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Nissan Kicks 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Nissan Kicks stands out as a budget-friendly small crossover that emphasizes efficiency and affordability. It offers standard advanced safety features, which adds to its appeal for shoppers looking for value in a low-cost vehicle. Drivers also tend to appreciate its fuel efficiency, touch screen interface, and comfortable passenger space.
At the same time, the Kicks has clear tradeoffs. Its performance is sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and the seats are described as uncomfortable. That mix makes it a practical choice for buyers who prioritize economy and basic features, but less compelling for anyone who wants stronger capability or a more polished driving experience.

I am familiar with the Kicks and bought another to add to my car fleet. I like the SR models and enjoy the Bose speakers, leather heated seats, and it's confortable to drive.

The touch screen and backup camera are really good. Also the gas mileage is the best Ive seen even among sedans. The price is universally better than other comparable crossovers. It drives and feels like a rogue but much closer to the ground. The pickup speed is the only complaint. And 4wd isnt available. And the interior lights seem cheap and ineffective.

I love the fuel efficiency and the comfortable amount of passenger space and storage capacity available. I love the simple to navigate touch screen interface. It’s responsive and lively enough to keep up on the highways with ease and amazing on long drives.

This SR model has every option possible. No GPS but the CarPlay and AndroidAuto make up for it. The only other small complaint is some of the door switches do not illuminate making them hard to locate at night. Well optioned and great safety features for this price point.

The expert review also emphasizes its economical, practical nature and notes that it is built around straightforward commuter-friendly transportation. It also includes a maintenance perk in the form of the first scheduled maintenance visit being covered.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same compromises that keep it affordable can also make it less satisfying if you expect stronger performance or more refinement.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Kicks?
At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model is value-oriented, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want. Pay extra attention to the features and trim equipment so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S trim keeps things basic with 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, manual folding side mirrors, black plastic bumpers, and cloth seats, while still adding a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, Siri Eyes Free technology, and standard automatic emergency braking. The SV adds 17-inch alloys, body-color heated side mirrors, push-button start, remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a half-digital instrument panel. The SR adds high-gloss black mirrors, a dark satin chrome grille, a top rear spoiler, fog lights, full LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, and available navigation, Bose premium audio, heated front seats, and Prima-Tex leatherette upholstery.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive only. The review notes that low-speed response is decent, but passing and highway acceleration are weak.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, and Nissan’s Easy Fill Tire Alert system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts are added on the SV and SR.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen, and the SV and SR add Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a half-digital instrument panel. The system is simple to use, though the graphics are described as dated.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
Which 2019 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?
The 2019 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the most affordable way into the Kicks, and it still gives you the core value story: a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, three USB ports, and standard automatic emergency braking. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the convenience upgrades.
- SV: This is the best-value trim. It adds 17-inch alloys, heated side mirrors, push-button start, remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the half-digital gauge display, which makes the Kicks feel much more modern without jumping to the top price.
- SR: Choose this if you want the most equipment and the most upscale appearance. It brings the 360-degree camera, LED headlights, fog lights, and available navigation, Bose audio, heated front seats, and leatherette upholstery.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts are standard on the SV and SR, so those trims are the safer bet if you want more driver-assistance coverage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Kicks?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough pricing softness to reward patience.
- Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 925 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.67% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,032, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $12,032 sits slightly below last year's $13,175.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the vehicle in clean condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Demand should remain tied to the Kicks' value, efficiency, and safety appeal.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Nissan Kicks safe?
The 2019 Nissan Kicks earns a 2019 IIHS Top Safety Pick rating and top scores of Good in Driver Side Small Frontal Overlap, Moderate Front Overlap, Side, and Head Restraint crash tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, and Nissan’s Easy Fill Tire Alert system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts are added on the SV and SR trims. The expert review also notes that the standard front emergency braking helps support its strong crash-avoidance performance.
Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.67% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 stands out for standard advanced safety features and strong fuel efficiency.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $11,894, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $12,032 average.
- It focuses on everyday utility and commuter-friendly practicality.
The bottom line: The 2019 is the better pick if you want the newer-year safety and value story, especially with softer pricing and a decent deal pool. If your priority is simply spending less, the 2018 is the more budget-friendly alternative, but you should still compare condition and equipment closely before deciding.
