CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Lexus ES

Summary
With 51 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,998, 121.6% of 2019 Lexus ES listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Lexus ES 4.67 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Lexus ES stands out as a luxury sedan that prioritizes refinement over flash. It was built on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and Lexus used that foundation to give the ES increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. The wheelbase grew by two inches, which added rear-seat legroom, and Lexus also moved the seating position lower and further back. The redesign also gave the car more visual personality, with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline.
Under the hood, the 2019 Lexus ES offered a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 302 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The ES 300h hybrid used a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a CVT for a combined 215 hp. Standard equipment was generous, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a full set of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Available options added features like a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, triple-beam LED headlights, and a digital key.
For buyers, the appeal of the 2019 Lexus ES is its combination of comfort, equipment, and a calmer driving character than many rivals. The cabin was designed to be quiet and pampering, and owners often praise the smooth ride, stylish design, and luxurious feel. Its main tradeoff is that it is not especially exciting to drive or look at, and the available trackpad-based controls could be frustrating to use.

A joy to drive! It is perfect in every way except the design of the Lexus badge on the trunk. Would be better not to be shaded in. Would prefer to see paint color of actual car underneath the badge instead of the black enamel. It is uncomparable! No other car will compare to this car.

Yes — the 2019 Lexus ES earns a 4.67/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth driving experience, and luxurious features, and many also highlight the comfort of the interior and the brand’s reliability. That fits well if you want a comfort-first luxury sedan with a quiet cabin and a calmer driving character than many rivals. With 39.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners specifically call out the brand’s reliability, along with a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used luxury sedan you can count on for the long haul. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one with clean history and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Lexus ES?
At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition and documentation, because a well-kept example is more likely to deliver the refined ownership experience this model is known for.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Lexus ES?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 737 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.15% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,792, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $27,218 sits slightly below last year's $28,105.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more accessible for buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, that means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean, well-documented example should hold up better than one with accident history or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.15% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $29,713, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $27,218 average.
- It adds more in-cabin tech while keeping the same comfort-first character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is broad enough to compare carefully. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model with added tech, the 2020 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize those updates over price.
