CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Hyundai Sonata

Summary
With 1,522 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,878, 30.6% of 2019 Hyundai Sonatas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Hyundai Sonata 4.56 / 5 stars.
57.4% of 2019 Sonata models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Hyundai Sonata stands out as a roomy, feature-rich midsize sedan that still feels like a strong value on the used market. It offers a comfortable cabin, a smooth ride, and a long list of standard equipment, while owners often praise its excellent fuel economy and spacious interior. For shoppers who want a practical sedan with plenty of everyday comfort and technology, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
It is also distinctive for the breadth of its powertrain choices and available equipment. The Sonata lineup includes gas and hybrid versions, and the gas models range from efficient everyday setups to a more powerful performance-oriented option. Standard features include an eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB ports, SiriusXM satellite radio, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, rear seat reminders, driver-attention warnings, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Available upgrades such as a Bose audio system, panoramic sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, head-up display, and parking sensors add to its appeal.
At the same time, the 2019 Sonata is not the most athletic sedan in its class, and some buyers may wish for more power. It also sits in a generation that is known for reliability concerns and theft vulnerability, so careful shopping matters. Even so, its mix of comfort, efficiency, safety tech, and value makes it an appealing used-car choice for buyers who prioritize practicality over excitement.

Reviewed a 2019 Hyundai Limited FWD on Apr 27, 2023
I really enjoy all the features that my sonata limited has. The interior layout is very intuitive and the materials feel premium. But the driving experience isnt quite as smooth. The base engines are all very lacking in power and leaves much to be desired. I put a ton of miles on my Sonata and have never had anything more than routine maintenance which still was few and far between.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Sonata reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with many drivers describing the car as trouble-free enough to appreciate its fuel economy and comfort over time. A few owners mention minor issues, but the overall tone suggests you can count on it for everyday use if you buy a well-kept example. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about day-to-day satisfaction and more about making sure the specific car you choose has a clean, well-documented history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Sonata?
At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and inconsistent mileage records. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has visible cosmetic wear or signs of uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or interior damage. Because this model year is known for reliability concerns and theft vulnerability, you should focus on overall condition and documentation as much as price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Sonata?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting deep bargain-bin pricing.
- Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,527 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,722, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?
The current average of $12,879 sits slightly below last year's $14,251.
That softer pricing trend suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays loose. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car in good condition, you can help protect your eventual resale position. Strong owner satisfaction can also support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $11,994, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $12,879 average.
- It offers a value-focused, roomy, and well-equipped package with a strong warranty.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2019 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, owner satisfaction, and available inventory. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2018 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition and can live with an older model year.
