CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
overall

Summary
With 1,840 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,147.00, 32.2% of 2019 Hyundai Santa Fes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out as a value-focused crossover with a strong mix of size, safety features, and easy-to-use technology. It is technically listed as a midsize SUV, but it sits between compact crossovers and larger midsize SUVs, which helps explain why it can appeal to shoppers looking for something with a little more presence without moving all the way up in size. It also replaces the 2-row Santa Fe Sport, giving it a clearer role in Hyundai’s lineup.
That positioning is part of what makes the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe distinctive: it offers the feel of a quality crossover while remaining a compelling alternative to compact rivals. The available information points to a spacious interior and comfortable ride as additional strengths, and owners also tend to praise its value, safety features, and comfort. At the same time, some drivers have noted road noise and occasional reliability concerns, including battery issues, so it is not without drawbacks.

Plenty of room while being able to drive easily in congested areas. A great value for a mid sized SUV. I replaced my Equinox for this model and Im pleased.

Awesome value and features for your money especially when you buy a used Hyundai Santa Fe. No other SUV will offer the same safety and comfort features at this price point.

I like the styling and features. The base Model the SE is very similar to the SEL. The SEL has few extra features like power seats, keyless ignition but are functionally similar. I was looking for a vehicle around $20k with low mileage so I ended up with a SE. I really like the drive and handling and the interior is very roomy for this category of SUV. The rating on Consumer Reports was quite good for this model year which is nearly identical to the 2020. It also has many safety features as standard equipment and you may still get a limited warranty based on mileage but it is not the full 100,000 mile one that Hyundai gives it is about 1/2 and it should be listed in the CarFax sheet.

If you find a listing below $15,166.68, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, and comfort, and they also highlight the spacious interior and ride quality. That lines up with its role as a value-focused crossover that gives you more presence than a compact SUV without forcing you into a larger midsize model.
The market also shows 27.4% good and great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with value, comfort, and safety standing out as recurring positives. The expert drive notes also describe it as a solid value with composed driving manners and a well-rounded feel.
Hyundai’s standard maintenance coverage can help reduce early ownership costs when you’re shopping new enough to benefit from it. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some listings may carry the kind of reliability concerns owners have mentioned, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe?
At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any listing that looks especially clean on paper. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the vehicle’s electronics or safety systems were repaired after a collision.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, high-beam assist, power heated side mirrors, LED daytime running lights, manual seats, and remote keyless entry. Higher trims add fog lights, power adjustment, heated front seats, push-button start, parking sensors, rear-occupant alert, dual automatic climate control, a premium sound system, full LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, leather seating, rain-sensing wipers, memory settings, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque on all trims, while the Limited and Ultimate are available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 235 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The base engine is described as sluggish, while the turbo is praised for strong acceleration.
- Safety package: Hyundai Smart Sense includes forward-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic. It also adds rear cross-path detection and Safe Exit Assist System, which ties the rear child-proof locks to blind-spot monitoring.
- Infotainment: The base SE gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, a USB port, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. SEL and above add satellite radio, HD Radio, and BlueLink with Alexa integration, while the Ultimate upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, and wireless charging.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive 2.4-liter version is rated at 22 mpg city, 29 highway, 25 combined. The AWD turbo version is rated at 19 mpg city, 24 highway, 21 combined.
Which 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the best-value trim if you want the lowest entry price without giving up a lot of standard equipment. You get the core safety and tech features, plus the essentials that make the Santa Fe feel well equipped right away.
- SEL: This is the smart step up if you want more everyday comfort, including heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, fog lights, and push-button start.
- SEL Plus: This is the best-value trim for shoppers who want the strongest mix of features and price. It adds 18-inch wheels, parking sensors, rear-occupant alert, dual-zone climate control, and a 630-watt Infinity audio system.
- Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, with full LED lighting, satin chrome door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and leather seating.
- Ultimate: This is the top choice if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including rain-sensing wipers, memory seats, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, and wireless charging.
Safety-wise, the standard Smart Sense suite is a major strength across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,875 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,166.68, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $15,189 sits slightly below last year's $17,346.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future buyers but may pressure resale if you sell soon. If you buy at a competitive price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The Santa Fe comes standard with Hyundai Smart Sense, which includes forward-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic, rear cross-path detection, and Safe Exit Assist System. It also includes a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
That standard safety content is a major strength, especially because it gives you a broad driver-assistance suite without forcing you into the highest trim. The main takeaway for used shoppers is to confirm that the safety systems are functioning properly after any prior repairs or collision history.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers a value-focused crossover layout with strong safety features and easy-to-use technology.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $14,511, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $15,189 average.
- It is a bargain-minded, safe, roomy family crossover.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $16,944, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $15,189 average.
- It adds a standard rear-seat reminder and a more modern five-passenger setup.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and everyday usability, the 2019 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 can save you money, while the 2020 makes sense if you want the newer setup and can pay more for it.
