CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Ford Expedition

Summary
With 260 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,788, 19.2% of 2019 Ford Expedition listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Ford Expedition 4.85 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Ford Expedition stands out as a full-size SUV that leans hard into family-hauling comfort without giving up truck-based capability. It offers a third row, plenty of passenger space, and a smooth ride, helped by its independent rear suspension. It also has adjustable pedals, a feature the source highlights as something you can get on the modern Expedition but not on the GM full-size SUV twins. For buyers who want a big SUV that feels more accommodating than rugged, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
It also keeps pace with modern tech better than many vehicles in its class. The Expedition adds satellite radio, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 360-degree cameras, and hands-free driving capabilities, while top-trim models can bring luxury touches such as a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, massaging seats, and special leather seating surfaces. The standard drivetrain is rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available, and the model does not offer a hybrid. On the downside, the source notes that the Expedition can be loud on the highway, tough to drive in tight spaces, and that max horsepower depends on premium fuel.

The interior is excellent and the exterior is very nice. The thing I'm most concerned with is that the EcoBoost engine has a fluttering ticking sound when I start it fresh in the morning....I've read that this condition can lead to some very costly repairs for a vehicle with less than 100K on it!!! And Ford realized that the original parts were inferior for that model year and subsequently replaced it with a better one a year later but they didn't do a recall on affected vehicles because of the cost and potential loss of future sales 😕

I was lucky enough to purchase this car with low mileage. The Expedition XLT with the 202A trim package has everything I was looking for and mine even came with a panoramic roof. It rides like a luxury liner should.

Is the 2019 Ford Expedition a good car?
Yes — 4.85/5 is a strong user rating, and owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, and luxurious features. The review summary also points to strong performance and safety impressions, along with practical strengths like cargo space and turning radius. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a full-size SUV that prioritizes family comfort and everyday usability. With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Ford Expedition reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, space, and overall satisfaction over time. That kind of response usually matters most when you plan to keep a used SUV for years, because it suggests fewer regrets after the purchase. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy family use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Expedition?
At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on body panels, alignment, suspension feel, and signs of uneven wear. Because this is a large family SUV, focus on overall condition and evidence of consistent maintenance rather than just mileage alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Expedition?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.
- Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,683 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.27% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,930, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Ford Expedition's resale value?
The current average of $22,930 sits slightly below last year's $26,439.
That price movement tells you the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Demand should remain supported by the model’s family-friendly space and comfort appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.27% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $19,677, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $22,930 average.
- It offers more room and towing strength for traditional full-size SUV buyers.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $26,276, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,930 average.
- It adds more cargo room and stronger all-around capability.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and current market availability, the 2019 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 is the better value play. If you need more capability and are willing to pay more, the 2020 is the stronger upgrade path.
