There are 2,015 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price, trim, and condition.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Ford Expedition earns a 4.73/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Form and function.

You’re looking at a full-size SUV that’s especially well suited to families and buyers who need serious passenger, cargo, and towing capability. Owners repeatedly praise its spaciousness, power, comfort, and the available features, and they also note good fuel economy for a vehicle this size. That lines up with the Expedition’s role as a large, comfortable, highly capable SUV that’s meant to handle everyday family duty and bigger hauling jobs with ease.

The market also shows healthy interest, with 34.4% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to used buyers: spaciousness, comfort, power, and a generally satisfying ownership experience. The expert review also emphasizes the Expedition’s robust power delivery and composed road manners, which supports the impression that it’s built to handle regular family use and long trips with confidence.

Ford also equips the Expedition with a broad set of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance features, which can help reduce stress in daily driving. Still, some owners mention high repair costs, so you should think carefully about maintenance history and expected ownership expenses before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Expedition?

At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used for towing, family hauling, or frequent city driving. Pay close attention to body condition, signs of prior repair, tire wear, and whether the cabin and cargo area show the kind of use you’d expect from a large SUV that may have carried people and gear regularly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard-length Expedition and the Expedition MAX are the main body styles, and the everyday trims are XLT, Limited, and Platinum. The MAX adds extra length and more cargo space behind the third row, while the standard version is the better fit if you do not regularly carry more than five people plus cargo. The base XL is aimed at fleet buyers, so most shoppers will be comparing the consumer trims.
• Powertrain: You get a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and Platinum trim adds 25 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque. The 10-speed automatic and selectable drive modes help the Expedition feel responsive, and the independent rear suspension supports a smoother ride and better cargo and third-row packaging.
• Safety package: The Expedition offers adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a reversing camera, MyKey, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, automatic collision notification, and SOS emergency calling. Some of these features are available rather than standard, so trim and package selection matter.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch display and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Sync Connect services and USB charging ports for every row. Wireless device charging, navigation, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, and a premium sound system are available, along with rear-seat entertainment.
• Fuel efficiency: The review notes an observed 18.3 mpg on a test loop.

Which 2018 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Expedition is offered in 4 trim levels: XLT, Limited, Platinum, and XL.

Here's the short version:

• XLT: This is the entry consumer trim and the best-value starting point if you want the Expedition’s core space, power, and capability without paying for the upper-trim extras. It gives you the redesigned Expedition experience at the lowest consumer price point.
• Limited: This is the trim to focus on if you want the sweet spot between price and equipment. The review’s test vehicle was a Limited with Package 301, and it brought a long list of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance features, making it the most compelling choice for shoppers who want more comfort and safety tech without jumping all the way to Platinum.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most upscale Expedition experience. It adds extra power, standard adaptive damping suspension, and more premium details, making it the right pick if comfort and luxury matter more than value.
• XL: This trim is intended for fleet sales to government and business entities, so it is not the right choice for most retail shoppers.

The safety-package content makes clear that several driver-assistance features are tied to package or trim selection, so check equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Expedition?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing into the first listing you see.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,015 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,405, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $19,405 sits slightly below last year's $22,109.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Expedition’s value will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, especially because buyers in this segment tend to compare listings closely.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, though, and that matters when it’s time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition safe?

The 2018 Expedition had not been subjected to crash tests as this review was written.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford equips the Expedition with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a reversing camera, MyKey, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, automatic collision notification, and SOS emergency calling. Some of those features are available rather than standard, so you should verify exactly what’s on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

The review also notes a few caveats with the driver aids: blind-spot monitoring did not always alert as expected, rear cross-traffic warnings could come late, and lane-keeping assist could feel aggressive. That means the Expedition brings a strong safety toolkit, but you should still test the systems yourself during a drive.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out as a completely redesigned full-size SUV with more interior room, greater comfort, superior cargo space, and significantly more towing capacity than the Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of space, comfort, towing ability, and modern tech in a full-size SUV, the 2018 Expedition is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a well-kept example with the right equipment, but the 2018’s redesign and strong owner satisfaction make it the primary year to focus on.
