Is the 2018 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability alongside the XC90’s safety and luxury appeal, and many owners describe it as a vehicle they can count on. The overall impression is of a well-liked SUV that delivers dependable ownership for buyers who value comfort and confidence. For used shoppers, the main long-term risk is that European luxury ownership can bring higher maintenance costs, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volvo XC90?

At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced listing. Focus on overall condition, service records, and any signs of infotainment or battery-related issues if you’re looking at a plug-in hybrid.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,091 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,036, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $17,036 sits slightly below last year's $19,427.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the current pricing environment means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with strong documentation should hold up better than average in a market that still rewards premium SUVs with broad appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and owner satisfaction, the 2018 is a strong place to start, especially because the market has softened and there are enough listings to compare carefully. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to keep an eye on nearby years as well, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible choice when you want a premium three-row SUV with broad appeal and a favorable current price.
