Is the 2018 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

The overview describes it as a big, truck-based family SUV that prioritizes durability and capability, with three rows of seating and a clear focus on space and strength. It also highlights the 2018 refresh, which added updated front-end styling and driver-assistance features that make this large SUV easier to live with. Is the 2018 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview emphasizes dependable hardware, reliable powertrains, and a reputation for durability, which are exactly the traits many used buyers want in a full-size SUV. It also notes that the refreshed 2018 model year pairs modern safety features with the Sequoia’s traditional body-on-frame toughness. For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about the basic formula and more about finding one that has been maintained well, since age, mileage, and heavy use can matter a lot on a large truck-based SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Sequoia?

At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you commit. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on condition items that matter on a large SUV, especially brakes, suspension wear, and any signs of frame rust. Because this model is built for durability and capability, you’ll want to pay close attention to how well the vehicle has been maintained and whether its condition matches its asking price.

What is the 2018 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?

The current average of $33,430 sits slightly below last year's $33,602.

That small decline suggests the market has been relatively stable, which is helpful if you plan to sell later because it points to predictable pricing rather than sharp swings. The Sequoia’s strong reputation for durability and capability should continue to support demand among buyers who want a full-size SUV with proven hardware. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and maintain it well, you’re more likely to preserve value over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed version of the Sequoia with updated styling and added driver-assistance features, the 2018 is the primary year to target. It makes the most sense if you value a rugged, three-row SUV with a strong reputation and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2018 refresh and its added features.
