How much does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 4.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,879 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its quality, safety features, and smooth driving experience, and the feedback also points to a solid feel and advanced safety systems. That lines up with the Crosstrek’s practical, safety-first, efficiency-minded positioning, especially if you want a compact vehicle with a tougher look and everyday utility. The main caution from owners is that the 2.0-liter engine can feel underpowered, so it makes the most sense if you value capability and confidence more than quick acceleration.

34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free feel, with many drivers describing the Crosstrek as a car they trust for daily use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Subaru has addressed earlier issues and improved the CVT, which supports the impression of a more composed and durable package. The cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that it feels like a good deal for what you get, including safety and infotainment tech.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure you’re getting one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use, especially if you plan to rely on it for all-weather driving and regular commuting.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car has been used hard in rough weather or on poor roads. Because this model is often chosen for its practical, outdoorsy appeal, it’s worth checking that the interior, cargo area, and underbody still reflect normal use rather than heavy abuse.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink infotainment system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, and you can get either a 6-speed manual or a CVT with all-wheel drive. The manual is standard on Base and Premium, while the CVT is standard on Limited and available on the lower trims; the CVT version is the more efficient choice.

• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight safety system is available and includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available, and some of those features are not standard on every trim.

• Infotainment: The Base and Premium use a 6.5-inch StarLink touchscreen, while the Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system is easy to use, with shortcut support and smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

• Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, fuel economy is 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. With the CVT, it improves to 29 city, 33 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the Crosstrek’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get the rugged look, roof rails, and the basic StarLink setup, but the cabin is sparse and the equipment list is intentionally minimal.

• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience features that make the Crosstrek easier to live with every day, including heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a better stereo. If you want the sweet spot between price and livability, this is the one to target.

• Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale version of the 2018 Crosstrek, with leather seats, automatic climate control, the larger 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel. It also gets the standard CVT and the most complete equipment list.

EyeSight is available, and some safety features remain optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re selective and willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,879 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,472, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $15,913 sits slightly below last year's $16,680.

That softer pricing suggests the Crosstrek has become a more approachable used buy, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should still have a model with broad appeal thanks to its practicality, safety focus, and all-weather usefulness. The current market also shows that shoppers are still responding to the Crosstrek’s mix of utility and efficiency, which helps support demand.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with a full array of front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. Subaru’s EyeSight safety system is available, and it adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. You can also get automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking.

The main safety caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim, so you’ll want to confirm exactly what’s installed on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is the first full redesign for the Crosstrek, and it keeps the focus on practicality, safety, efficiency, and a more refined take on the formula.

The bottom line: If you want the most evolved version of this generation’s Crosstrek formula, the 2018 is the one to target. It gives you the redesign, strong safety credentials, and a useful mix of capability and efficiency. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may save you money, but the 2018 is the better pick when you want the more polished and more complete version of the model.
