Summary
With 314 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,052.00, 30.6% of 2018 Mitsubishi Outlanders for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander stands out by making up for several shortcomings with up-to-date tech and safety features that modern buyers want. It is not at the front of the SUV pack, and it rides on an old platform that can be traced all the way back to 2005, but it still makes the most of what Mitsubishi has to offer by delivering the latest driver-assistance and infotainment technology.
That focus on current features is the Outlander’s main appeal. Shoppers may be willing to overlook its uninspiring interior and middling ride quality if they can connect an iPhone through Apple CarPlay. For buyers who value available technology more than polish or refinement, that tradeoff helps define what makes the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander distinctive.

Reviewed a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander on Mar 16, 2021
I like this car, it is a smooth ride, it looks fabulous on the inside and out. I believe it was a good value, for the money and very good miles. I really feel like I got a brand new car. The only thing missing was a restart, but I will be adding that soon. This is my 2nd Mitsubishi Outlander compared to the 2011, I can say that there are lots of improvements on body style, engine and features.

It is not the most polished SUV in the class, and the ride quality and interior execution are not its strengths, but if you value modern features more than refinement, it fits that use case well.
32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Outlander’s reliability story is helped by its straightforward gasoline powertrain and a long powertrain warranty, which can reduce some ownership anxiety for used buyers. The expert evaluation also points to a vehicle that leans on practical equipment and familiar mechanicals rather than complexity.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear may show up in the cabin, ride quality, and overall refinement before it shows up in outright mechanical failure.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander?
At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower-than-average asking price. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment you want is actually present on the trim you are shopping.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base ES comes with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a 7-inch touchscreen, HD radio, Bluetooth, USB, remote keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control. The SE adds fog lights, color-keyed side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a power sunroof, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The LE adds black exterior accents, power-folding side mirrors, black roof rails, black-painted wheels, a black headliner and pillars, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. The SEL adds rain-sensing wipers, auto on-off headlights, chrome accents, silver roof rails, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, a power liftgate, leather seating, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The GT adds LED headlights, LED fog lights, paddle shifters, and a power sunroof.
- Powertrain: Most trims use a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The GT uses a 3.0-liter V6 with 224 hp and 215 lb-ft, paired with a 6-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. The four-cylinder is described as underpowered, while the V6 is stronger but still not class-leading.
- Safety package: Standard safety features include a reversing camera, airbags, traction control, tire pressure monitoring, hill-start assist, and active stability control. The SEL Touring Package adds forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. The GT Touring package adds the same driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on the SE and remain a key reason to shop this model year.
- Fuel efficiency: The base front-wheel-drive engine is rated at 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 27 combined. The all-wheel-drive four-cylinder drops by 1 mpg in each category. The GT V6 is estimated at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 22 combined.
Which 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander is offered in 5 trim levels: ES, SE, LE, SEL, GT.
Here's the short version:
- ES: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Outlander experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the most affordable way into the model, but you give up the extra convenience and tech that make the higher trims more appealing.
- SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the features that matter most in daily use, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated front seats, a power sunroof, fog lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the strongest mix of price and modern equipment, this is the trim to target.
- LE: This trim is more about appearance and added driver awareness, with blacked-out exterior details, power-folding mirrors, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look and extra safety tech, but it is less compelling than the SE on pure value.
- SEL: This is the more upscale choice, with leather seating, a power liftgate, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, rain-sensing wipers, and auto on-off headlights. It is the right pick if you want a more premium-feeling Outlander without going all the way to the GT.
- GT: This is the top trim, and it brings the V6, paddle shifters, LED lighting, and standard all-wheel drive. Choose it if you want the strongest powertrain and the most equipment, but it is the least value-focused option.
The safety-package trims add forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.

What is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?
The current average of $11,050 sits slightly below last year's $11,610.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, equipment, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for delivering the latest driver-assistance and infotainment technology while still offering three-row practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the Outlander’s mix of affordability, available safety tech, and seating flexibility, the 2018 is a sensible year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the trims and listings that give you Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the safety package without stretching into the highest-priced versions.
