How much does the 2018 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 3.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,825 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, great features, stylish interior, safety features, and on-road performance. That lines up with the CX-5’s positioning as a compact crossover that aims for a more premium feel while still serving everyday use well.

If you want a small SUV that feels more engaging and upscale than purely practical, this one fits that brief. With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride, safety features, and overall driving experience. The expert review also reinforces that impression by describing the CX-5 as a well-balanced SUV with strong engineering and a refined driving character.

Mazda’s standard 6-speed automatic, responsive steering, and controlled body motions support the sense that this is a vehicle you can count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about finding a well-kept example with no neglected wear or cosmetic issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda CX-5?

At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, paint condition, and signs of prior repair. Because some owners have noted paint flaking on certain colors, exterior condition deserves extra attention. It also makes sense to confirm that the cabin, electronics, and safety systems all work as expected, especially if you’re comparing higher-mileage examples.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring are the three versions, and the base Sport is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. The Grand Touring stands out for its more upscale cabin presentation, standard navigation, premium Bose audio, and satellite radio, while Touring sits in the middle with some features available as options.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are both offered, and the transmission is tuned to feel responsive in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard or optional depending on trim level, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Every CX-5 also gets blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Smart City Brake Support, and E911 emergency notification.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a freestanding screen and can be operated by touchscreen when parked, plus console controls, steering-wheel controls, and voice commands while driving. It includes Aha, Pandora, Stitcher, text-messaging support, HD Radio, and E911, but it does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD version is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 24.7 mpg on a mixed route.

Which 2018 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-5’s core strengths without the higher price of the upper trims. It makes sense if you want the driving feel and style first, but you should expect fewer luxury touches than the higher trims.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and comfort while staying below the top model. It’s the trim to focus on if you want a balanced mix of equipment and price.
• Grand Touring: This is the most upscale version, with standard navigation, premium Bose audio, and satellite radio. It suits you best if you want the most premium-feeling CX-5 and are willing to pay for it.

For safety, Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard or optional depending on trim level, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance features are included on the specific listing you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,825 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,188, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $16,873 sits slightly below last year's $17,437.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than assuming the market will lift prices on its own.

The CX-5’s strong reputation for style, safety, and driving enjoyment should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples. If you maintain yours carefully and keep service records, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA because of a four-star performance in the rear-seat side-impact test.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every CX-5 comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Smart City Brake Support, and E911 emergency notification. Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard or optional depending on trim level, and it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.

One caveat is that the headlights are rated Acceptable rather than Good by IIHS, which keeps the CX-5 from earning Top Safety Pick+ status. That makes trim and equipment verification especially important if you want the strongest possible safety setup.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends premium-style design with engaging driving dynamics and strong cost effectiveness.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,943, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $16,873 average.
• It’s the fun-to-drive, upscale-feeling choice for buyers who want personality over maximum practicality.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,928, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,873 average.
• It adds smartphone connectivity, improved handling, and a turbocharged top-trim option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, style, and driving enjoyment, the 2018 is the primary path to consider. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2017 is the value play; if you want newer tech and can spend more, the 2019 is the upgrade path.
