Is the 2018 Lexus IS a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Lexus IS earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its smooth ride, stylish design, sporty feel, and solid power, especially when paired with the turbo engine and advanced safety features. The overview also shows why it appeals to you if you want a compact luxury sports sedan with a premium feel and a smaller footprint, though the tight back seat makes it less appealing if you regularly carry passengers. With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a car that many drivers find dependable, with positive feedback centered on a smooth, trouble-free ownership experience and confidence in the car’s long-term appeal. That lines up with the model’s reputation for reliability and its premium feel. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the car’s basic character and more about finding one that has been well maintained and not worn down by prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus IS?

At 48.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with accident records. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service documentation. Focus your condition check on the cabin, electronics, and signs of prior bodywork, since those areas can reveal how carefully the car was treated.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 476 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.71% compared with last year.

What is the 2018 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $22,582 sits slightly below last year's $23,451.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the right number and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and premium-brand appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2018 is a smart choice if you want a compact luxury sports sedan with strong owner approval and a softer used-car price than last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a lower-priced alternative gives you similar satisfaction with a better deal.
