Why it stands out
The 2018 Kia Sorento stands out as a midsize SUV that blends style, space, and a broad feature set in a way that makes it appealing to family shoppers. By this point in its third generation, the Sorento had grown into a more substantial vehicle with improved passenger room and a more refined interior, while still keeping the practical, value-oriented character that has long defined the model. It also offered a strong mix of safety and convenience equipment, including standard rear parking sensors and available forward collision and lane-departure warnings, which helped it feel more modern and family-friendly.
What makes the 2018 Sorento especially distinctive is the range of powertrains and equipment it offered. The lineup included a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6, all paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It also delivered respectable fuel economy for the class, with the base four-cylinder estimated at up to 20/27 mpg city/highway, the turbo version at 21/28 mpg, and the V6 at 18/25 mpg. For buyers who wanted more comfort and flexibility, the Sorento’s available third row and improved cabin quality added to its appeal.
There are tradeoffs, though. The base four-cylinder was described as too weak for the larger Sorento, and the third row was still best suited to smaller passengers. Even so, the 2018 Sorento remained a compelling choice because it combined useful space, available all-wheel drive, and a well-rounded feature list in a package that felt more polished than earlier Sorentos.

How much does the 2018 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,274 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,251 |
| Year-Round High | $13,271 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,244 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.32% |
Prices have softened 7.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,578 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.
Is the 2018 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, comfortable interior, and smooth driving experience, and many also value its spaciousness and safety features. For family shoppers, the Sorento’s blend of room, practicality, and value makes it a sensible fit. With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centered on comfort, smooth driving, and overall value. At the same time, some owners mention potential mechanical concerns, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a vehicle with unresolved maintenance or repair history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Kia Sorento?
At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A thorough inspection should focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of past collision work. It also makes sense to pay close attention to overall maintenance records and how the vehicle has been used.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,578 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,251, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $12,274 sits slightly below last year's $13,244.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can limit upside if you plan to resell soon. On the other hand, the lower entry price may help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and maintain it well, you can help protect its future value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $11,136, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $12,274 average.
- It offers broad appeal with strong balance across comfort, safety, and practicality.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $13,757, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $12,274 average.
- It adds a more upscale feel with top crash-test confidence and a class-leading warranty.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right primary choice if you want a well-rounded Sorento with strong owner approval and a softer market price. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2017 is the better value play, while the 2019 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling package.
