Why it stands out
The 2018 Kia Sorento stands out as a midsize SUV that blends style, space, and a broad feature set in a way that makes it appealing to family shoppers. By this point in its third generation, the Sorento had grown into a more substantial vehicle with improved passenger room and a more refined interior, while still keeping the practical, value-oriented character that has long defined the model. It also offered a strong mix of safety and convenience equipment, including standard rear parking sensors and available forward collision and lane-departure warnings, which helped it feel more modern and family-friendly.
What makes the 2018 Sorento especially distinctive is the range of powertrains and equipment it offered. The lineup included a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6, all paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It also delivered respectable fuel economy for the class, with the base four-cylinder estimated at up to 20/27 mpg city/highway, the turbo version at 21/28 mpg, and the V6 at 18/25 mpg. For buyers who wanted more comfort and flexibility, the Sorento’s available third row and improved cabin quality added to its appeal.
There are tradeoffs, though. The base four-cylinder was described as too weak for the larger Sorento, and the third row was still best suited to smaller passengers. Even so, the 2018 Sorento remained a compelling choice because it combined useful space, available all-wheel drive, and a well-rounded feature list in a package that felt more polished than earlier Sorentos.

How much does the 2018 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,127 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,127 |
| Year-Round High | $13,215 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,219 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.26% |
Prices have softened 8.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,571 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2018 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, comfortable interior, and smooth driving experience, and many also value the spacious cabin and safety features. For family shoppers, its blend of room, comfort, and value makes it a practical choice, especially if you want a midsize SUV that feels well equipped without pushing into a higher price bracket. With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2018 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a vehicle that many people find dependable and trouble-free in everyday use, with comfort and value showing up as recurring strengths. Some owners do mention potential mechanical issues, so reliability confidence is strongest when you shop carefully and verify maintenance history. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable, but only if you prioritize condition and service records.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Kia Sorento?
At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report to confirm accident records, title status, and ownership patterns. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair, then check for any mechanical concerns during a thorough test drive. Because this model has a broad mix of listings, the best buys are usually the ones with clean history, consistent maintenance, and no signs of deferred upkeep.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts on every listing.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,571 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.26% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,127, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $12,127 sits slightly below last year's $13,219.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also suggests resale upside may be more measured than in a rising market. If you plan to sell later, condition and mileage will matter even more because buyers will compare your vehicle against a large pool of similarly priced listings. A clean history and strong maintenance record should help your Sorento stand out when it is time to trade or sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $10,947, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $12,127 average.
- It offers broad appeal with strong comfort, styling, and value.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $13,676, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $12,127 average.
- It adds updates, a more upscale feel, and top crash-test ratings.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the best all-around pick if you want a balanced mix of price, owner satisfaction, and available inventory. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2017 is the smarter value play; if you want a newer-feeling Sorento and can spend more, the 2019 is the better upgrade path.
