CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Ford Mustang
overall

Summary
With 203 currently listed for sale near Aurora, CO and an average price of $24,493.00, 17.2% of 2018 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Ford Mustang 4.61 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
83.3% of 2018 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
With a nip here and a tuck there, plus substantial mechanical and technological improvements, the 2018 Ford Mustang aims to ensure its continued popularity. It comes across as less rudimentary and more sophisticated than ever, blurring the line between mainstream and premium cars as well as muscle and sports cars. That broader appeal is part of what makes it distinctive: it remains a pony car at heart, but it is presented as a more polished and capable package than the nameplate’s old reputation might suggest.
The 2018 Ford Mustang also stands out because its performance credentials are strong enough that its rivals are no longer described as being limited solely to the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a car with serious sporting intent but also a more refined feel than a bare-bones muscle car. Owners’ feedback reinforces that image, with praise for its power, sporty design, enjoyable driving experience, fast acceleration, and smooth ride. At the same time, some owners note limited trunk space and discrepancies in vehicle specifications, which are worth keeping in mind for shoppers who need everyday practicality.

This is a driver’s car. Base model, performance package, standard shift. It’s got all the right parts and it is exactly the car I would have ordered if I were there to purchase this car when it was new.

First the color Kona Blue is beautiful especially in the sunlight. Ride is smooth and comfortable. I love that you change to sport mode. And your comfort or sport for steering. Love it! Inexpensive muscle car.

Very good value. Car is missing nothing. I would compare it to a corvette.

Engine sounds good. Interior has lots of cigarette burns. Front bumper cover was repainted, could have done a better job on the clear coat. Scratch down the passenger side quarter panel. Would have bought for cash if price was a little bit lower.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 4.61/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.33/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its power, sporty design, enjoyable driving experience, fast acceleration, and smooth ride. The overview also frames it as a more polished, more capable pony car that blends mainstream and premium appeal, which helps explain why it works for you if you want serious performance without a bare-bones feel.
With 27.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a fun, stylish, and affordable car that many people enjoy living with over time, with praise for its enjoyable driving experience and smooth ride.
The expert review reinforces that sense of dependability by describing the car as more sophisticated than before and noting that its performance and refinement are both improved for this model year. It also highlights the Mustang’s strong value proposition, which matters when you’re thinking about long-term ownership.
Ford’s performance notes suggest a car built to handle hard use, and the cost-effectiveness commentary points to meaningful value even in higher-performance versions. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been driven or modified in a way that creates avoidable wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?
At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or a modified exhaust, suspension, or transmission setup. Pay close attention to condition details that matter on a sports car: brakes, tires, suspension behavior, interior wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches its advertised configuration.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Premium trim adds higher-quality cabin materials, exposed contrast stitching, and aluminum carbon-pattern trim, while the base setup is more basic inside.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a V8-powered GT, with a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic depending on configuration.
- Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, and the IIHS small-overlap frontal-impact result is only Acceptable.
- Infotainment: You get Sync 3, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Ford Sync Connect, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 19 miles per gallon in combined driving.
Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 2 trim levels: EcoBoost and GT.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the best-value choice if you want the Mustang look and driving fun without paying V8 money. The cost-effectiveness commentary specifically points to the EcoBoost as the real value play, and it can be paired with a Performance Package if you want more capability without jumping to the GT.
- GT: Choose this if you want the V8 experience, stronger straight-line performance, and the more serious hardware that comes with the higher-output setup. The expert review makes clear that this is the more thrilling and more expensive path, especially when equipped with performance upgrades.
The safety content notes that the car’s driver-assistance features are configurable and performance-aware, but the lane-keeping assist system can be intrusive, so that’s worth testing on your own drive.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,028 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,230.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $22,439 sits slightly below last year's $23,133.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you buy now and hold the car for a while. If demand stays steady, a well-kept Mustang should remain easier to resell than a less desirable sports coupe, especially because shoppers still respond to its performance, style, and broad appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection and Good ratings in other crash-test assessments. It also earns a five-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Most of these systems can be adjusted for sensitivity, and they’re tuned to avoid false alarms during spirited driving.
One caveat is that the lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, though you can switch it off. The IIHS small-overlap result is also a reminder that crash protection is strong overall, but not perfect.
Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 update brings substantial mechanical and technological improvements, including a more sophisticated feel, stronger performance credentials, and upgraded driver-assistance and infotainment features.
The bottom line: If you want the more polished, better-equipped version of this generation’s Mustang, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2018 gives you a compelling mix of value, performance, and updated tech that helps justify the spend.
