Summary
With 190 currently listed for sale near Aurora, CO and an average price of $24,993.00, 17.9% of 2016 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Mustang 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
68.9% of 2016 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Mustang stands out because Ford chose not to treat it as a simple carryover after the car’s 50th anniversary year. Instead, it arrived with some old favorites and new surprises meant to keep the pony car feeling fresh, including hood-mounted turn signals that first appeared in ’67, new Black Accent and California Special packages, and the GT Performance package finally available for the convertible.
That mix of heritage and updates is a big part of the Mustang’s appeal. It gives buyers a car with recognizable style and a sense of history, while also adding enough fresh packaging to make the lineup feel more special. Owners also praise its fun and smooth ride, performance, handling, and stylish design, and many see strong value compared with similar cars. On the other hand, some drivers noted missing features like Apple CarPlay, and fuel economy can be a mixed point depending on the model.

So beautiful, top up or down its a head- turner. Super comfortable to drive around town or on the highway, all good. Ford did a good job on the infotainment, plug and play to use Google maps. The sport mode really gets it while normal mode helps save gas. Best in class cargo means you can fit your stuff no problem. I have the 6 speed stick, notchy and fun all the time. The 4 cylinder turbo engine Ecoboost means the car is way lighter than the GT which makes this really easy to drive and nimble. The brakes are great. At 34,000 and have no issues, very reliable. I love this car. What a delight. They say things dont make your life better but this car proves otherwise!

The premium is the perfect mix of luxury meets sport. Plenty of options included adds lots of comfort. And this GT is fast with amazing handling and control. My wife can take it to the grocery store without being scared of it and I can drop it in sport mode and tear up the asphalt.

I have a very well equipped Ecoboost Premium. The car rides exceptionally well. The 4 cyl has plenty of power and pulls close to 30 MPG on the highway. The car is a joy to drive and is my 5th Mustang. Having owned some older generations, this is the best one yet. Lots of creature comforts in this model and a nice mix of retro and new.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang reliable?

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Mustang?
At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim and options you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base V6 comes with 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights and LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and MyKey, while higher trims add features like power front seats, unique wheels, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
- Powertrain: You can choose from the V6, the turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder, or the V8, with the EcoBoost offering the best fuel economy and the V8 delivering the strongest performance.
- Safety package: Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add optional front and rear parking sensors.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen on upgraded setups, and the system is quicker than the previous setup; the upgraded infotainment system also adds a larger screen.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 17 mpg city/28 highway/21 combined with the manual or 22 combined with the automatic, the EcoBoost returns 22/31/26 with the manual or 21/32/25 with the automatic, and the V8 returns 15/25/19.
Which 2016 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- V6: This is the most affordable way into the Mustang and still gives you a strong feature set, including 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights and LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, and MyKey. It suits you if you want the classic Mustang look and feel without stretching for extras.
- EcoBoost: This trim adds the turbocharged four-cylinder and brings power front seats, unique 18-inch alloys, a rear spoiler, and LED fog lights. It’s the best-value pick if you want a more modern powertrain and a good balance of performance and efficiency.
- EcoBoost Premium: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete small-engine Mustang experience, because it adds Sync 3, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated seats, heated rear-view mirrors, a rear diffuser, multiple drive modes, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an upgraded 9-speaker infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen.
- GT: If you want the V8, this is the straightforward performance choice, with the bigger engine, bigger brakes, and available electric line-lock and launch control on the manual. It’s the trim for you if outright muscle matters more than premium comfort features.
- GT Premium: This is the trim that restores the premium equipment while keeping the V8, making it the most complete and desirable version for many shoppers. It also pairs well with the available California Special package if you want extra style.
Premium Mustangs can also add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 25.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,888 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,415.57, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $19,792 sits slightly below last year's $20,515.
That price movement suggests the Mustang has softened, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. If you own one, you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the car has been modified.
Because the market has already moved down, a clean, well-kept example is more likely to hold buyer interest than one with questionable history or heavy customization. That matters especially for a car like this, where enthusiast demand can be strong but selective.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford Mustang safe?
It earns a five-star rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags help support that result. Premium Mustangs can also add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add optional front and rear parking sensors.
That means you do not have to give up safety to get performance here, especially if you shop for a better-equipped trim. If you want the most confidence on the road, look for the available driver-assistance features and verify that they’re actually installed on the car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 25.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 adds heritage touches and fresh packaging, including hood-mounted turn signals, Black Accent and California Special packages, and convertible GT Performance availability.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $20,264, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $19,792 average.
- It was a redesigned anniversary model with a big improvement in dynamics and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better-value buy, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and the car still brings strong owner satisfaction, solid safety, and broad trim choice. If you’re shopping purely on price and find a cleaner 2015 example with the right equipment, that earlier model can still make sense, but the 2016 is the more compelling default pick for most used-car shoppers.
