CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 116 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,650, 19.8% of 2018 Dodge Charger listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Dodge Charger 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
62.1% of 2018 Dodge Charger listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Charger stands out because it blends old-school muscle-sedan character with modern features. It is described as a retro sedan in a world of front-wheel-drive conveyances, and it keeps a rear-wheel-drive layout while offering a range of unique trims and special editions. That combination gives it a personality few modern cars can match, especially for buyers who want a four-door sedan with a more traditional performance feel.
At the same time, the 2018 Dodge Charger is not just about nostalgia. It comes with the latest infotainment and safety technology, and it can be bought with all-wheel drive. Its engine lineup also spans from standard V6 power to a 707-horsepower V8, which helps explain why it appeals to shoppers looking for both everyday usability and serious performance. Owners also tend to appreciate its sporty character, smooth ride, stylish design, and spacious interior.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Charger’s appeal is tied closely to power and style, so it may not satisfy buyers who prioritize fuel economy or upscale interior materials. Some owners also mention concerns about gas mileage, fit and finish, and reliability. Even so, the 2018 Dodge Charger remains distinctive because it delivers a rare mix of muscle-car attitude, modern tech, and available all-wheel drive in a practical sedan body.

Love this car! I got this car at a good price and it’s my first mopar so I can’t compare. It is missing upgraded speakers and a sunroof but I can’t complain.

Absolutely love these line of vehicle! So versatile, and agile if i may say lol, Handles really well in the corners and the power is there if you need it. Dodge definitely outdid itself with this line of vehicles, sports wise as well as family ability! Hope to see more in the future or at least something along the same lines, being that they (Dodge) are converting more to EV’s now (Electric Vehicles). But time will tell!

I thought the car handles and rides nice. Peppy V6. But the fit and finish of the seats and the actual sheet metal were very sub par. I was looking to trade my 06 Suburban in on it. There is no comparison between the two. My 06 Suburban is built much better!

Is the 2018 Dodge Charger a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Dodge Charger earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its sporty character, powerful performance, smooth ride, stylish design, tech features, and spacious interior. That lines up with the Charger’s use case as a rear-wheel-drive muscle sedan that still offers everyday practicality, plus available all-wheel drive for added versatility. Good and great deals account for 23.9% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Dodge Charger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many people find dependable and trouble-free enough to enjoy over time, with praise centered on its strong performance, smooth ride, and overall appeal. The expert drive notes reinforce that the Charger feels confident in normal driving and delivers strong braking, which supports the sense that it is a car you can count on day to day. Some owners do mention reliability concerns, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
At 48.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on condition details that owners commonly flag, including fit and finish, seat wear, and overall maintenance history. Because this model can be bought in many configurations, you should also confirm that the equipment on the car matches the trim and options advertised.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual stainless-steel exhaust, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SXT Plus adds fog lamps, heated power mirrors, all-season performance tires, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power eight-way driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a six-speaker stereo. The GT adds all-wheel drive, a Gloss Black front fascia, 19-inch wheels, and a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters. The GT Plus adds heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. The R/T brings V8 power, a sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust. The R/T with Scat Pack adds the 6.4-liter V8, cloth performance seats, and Brembo brakes. The Daytona adds a Mopar cold air intake, three-mode stability control, performance suspension, heavy-duty disc brakes, and unique visual touches. The Daytona 392 upgrades to the 392-cubic-inch V8. The SRT 392 adds red Brembo calipers, high-performance active damping suspension, a body-color rear spoiler, and unique SRT interior touches. The Hellcat sits at the top with the most potent engine in the lineup.
- Powertrain: The SXT, SXT Plus, GT, and GT Plus use a 3.6-liter V6 with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet in GT trims and SXT trims with the Super Track Pak. The R/T and Daytona use a 5.7-liter V8 with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet. The R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392 use a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft. The Hellcat uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 hp and 650 lb-ft. The V6 with rear-wheel drive is the most efficient setup, while AWD improves winter traction and adds cornering confidence.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection and the optional Technology Group add adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Some of those features are optional rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The SXT gets a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The system is designed for simple navigation, and it uses a dock-style layout that makes menu switching easy.
Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392, Hellcat.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Charger experience at the lowest price. You get the 7-inch Uconnect screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the standard comfort and convenience basics. If you want the Charger’s style and space without paying for extra performance hardware, this is the trim to start with.
- SXT Plus: This is the better-value choice if you want more everyday comfort without jumping into V8 pricing. The added heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, upgraded wheels, and extra convenience features make it feel more complete than the SXT.
- GT: This is the best fit if you want the Charger’s personality with all-wheel drive. The GT adds AWD, a more aggressive front fascia, larger wheels, and paddle shifters, making it a strong pick for buyers who want year-round usability.
- GT Plus: Choose this if you want the GT’s AWD plus more comfort features. Heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel make it the most polished V6-based option.
- R/T: This is the first trim for buyers who want standard V8 power. It adds the 5.7-liter engine, sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust, so it suits you if performance matters more than efficiency.
- R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance sweet spot if you want the strongest value in the V8 lineup. The 6.4-liter engine, Brembo brakes, and performance seats make it the most compelling choice for serious enthusiasts.
- Daytona: This trim is for you if you want R/T-based performance with extra hardware and a more distinctive look. The performance suspension, cold air intake, and unique styling set it apart from the standard R/T.
- Daytona 392: This is the Daytona to buy if you want the same character with the stronger 6.4-liter engine. It gives you more muscle without moving all the way to the SRT models.
- SRT 392: This is the more focused performance choice, with high-performance damping, Brembo hardware, and unique SRT touches. It suits buyers who want sharper handling and a more serious performance feel.
- Hellcat: This is the top-end choice if outright power is your priority. It sits at the extreme end of the lineup and is the one to buy only if you want the most potent Charger available.
The safety package is strong across the lineup, but several advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make timing matter.
- Deal availability: 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,549 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.18% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 48.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,529, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?
The current average of $18,837 sits slightly below last year's $19,867.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers set expectations more realistically. If you buy at a favorable price now and keep the car in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The Charger’s broad appeal, especially among shoppers who want style and performance, should help support demand, but condition and trim choice will matter a lot when it is time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?
The 2018 Dodge Charger earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection adds useful awareness, and the optional Technology Group brings adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Some of those features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify exactly what is installed on the car you are considering.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It blends rear-wheel-drive muscle-sedan character with modern infotainment and available all-wheel drive.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $18,176, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,837 average.
- It is a bold 4-door muscle car that draws attention and appeals strongly to enthusiasts.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, broad inventory, and the Charger’s distinctive personality, the 2018 is the stronger all-around pick. If your main goal is to spend less up front and you are comfortable giving up some of the 2018’s market advantages, the 2017 is the better value-oriented alternative.
