CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Dodge Challenger

Summary
With 197 currently listed for sale near Fort Worth, TX and an average price of $42,964, 18.8% of 2018 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Dodge Challenger 4.71 / 5 stars.
73.1% of 2018 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Challenger stands out as a muscle car that blends old-school attitude with everyday usability. It is a five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system that includes a touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, which helps make it a fairly practical choice even in high-performance form. The Challenger also offers a wide range of powertrain choices, manual and automatic transmissions, and performance hardware such as adaptive suspension, launch control, Brembo brakes, and Mopar tuning options, so buyers could tailor it to anything from relaxed cruising to serious straight-line speed.
What makes the 2018 model especially appealing is the breadth of its personality. Dodge offered a long list of trims and special editions, along with standout colors and styling details like spoilers, hood scoops, unique fascia and grille designs, special upholstery, and distinctive badging. Widebody variations were offered for some trims in 2019 and 2020, but for 2018 the appeal was already clear: a coupe with plenty of character, strong performance potential, and a cabin that was more usable than many muscle-car rivals. The tradeoffs are familiar ones for this kind of car, including the fact that many examples were neglected or abused, and owners also commonly point to heavy weight and fuel efficiency as drawbacks.

I love this car it’s what I’ve always wanted a factory hot rod. Buy em now they aren’t making them anymore.. 2018 dodge upgraded the touch screen, this one’s nice big and clear. Back up beepers and blind spot lights on the mirror huge plus. The thing I found I don’t like is I would like a gear indicator on the dash sometimes you’ll miss one. I’m new to this 6 speed. It’s a blast to drive!

Is the 2018 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes dependable performance, comfort, and a car that many drivers enjoy living with over time. That said, used examples can vary a lot in condition, so long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well the previous owner maintained and used the car.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Challenger?
At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on suspension, brakes, tires, and signs of hard use. Because this model is often bought for performance, condition matters as much as mileage when you evaluate a used one.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Challenger?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,630 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.24% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,345, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $22,738 sits slightly below last year's $24,514.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy a well-kept example at the right price so you have less depreciation room left to absorb. Strong condition and desirable equipment matter more when the broader market is already softening.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.24% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $20,322, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $22,738 average.
- It leans harder into retro muscle-car character.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping case, the 2018 is the better primary target because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a softer market and decent deal availability. If your main goal is to spend less up front, the 2017 is the better secondary path, especially if you value its more overt retro personality.
