CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Audi Q5
overall

Summary
With 1,715 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,721, 34.5% of 2018 Audi Q5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Audi Q5 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
69.8% of 2018 Q5 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Audi Q5 stands out because it is a completely redesigned vehicle wrapped in familiar bodywork, so it keeps the recognizable look of Audi’s compact SUV while bringing a fresh underlying package. Audi’s best-selling model gets redesigned for the first time in almost a decade, and the update brings the latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and greater overall sophistication. The styling changes are described as subtle, which helps the Q5 feel familiar even as it moves forward in substance.
That combination makes the 2018 Q5 appealing as an all-rounder. It offers a luxurious interior, a smooth driving experience, and a comfortable ride, while owners also praise the spacious rear seats and technology. The main drawback is that it is said to lack personality, and some drivers have raised concerns about ergonomics, especially the armrest placement, along with isolated issues involving gear shifting and braking.

The features equipped in this vehicle are great, and I do believe it is a great value. I wish that it came equipped with a touch screen infotainment system none the less I love how smooth it is to drive.

Beautiful interior. Car basically has all the features: HUD, digital cockpit display, heated and ventilated seats, huge sun roof with a mechanical cover to block out light, big wheels. The voice commands were better than my 2022 genesis and 2020 NX. Seats were better than the NX, and as good or about as good as the genesis. Very happy with this car. For the price of ~25k it really feels like a steal.

The expert review also describes it as an impressive all-rounder with improved performance, greater sophistication, and a polished driving experience. Audi’s standard safety tech and the model’s broad appeal reinforce the sense that this is a vehicle many owners can count on.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?
At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident record or incomplete service documentation. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury SUV: cabin wear, electronics, braking feel, and how smoothly the drivetrain behaves in normal driving. If a vehicle has been repaired after an incident, make sure the repairs were done cleanly and that the car tracks, brakes, and operates as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige are the standard trims, and the base version is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. Premium Plus adds useful upgrades, while Prestige brings the most advanced tech and convenience features.
- Powertrain: The Q5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive. The system can decouple the rear axle to help maximize fuel economy.
- Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard and includes forward-collision detection, automatic emergency braking, and cabin-preparation technology. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus also adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.
- Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models. The latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions, and Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus. A full-color head-up display is standard only on Prestige.
- Fuel efficiency: The Q5 is described as returning 25 mpg in combined driving, though the test vehicle returned 21.3 mpg in real-world use.
Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Q5 experience with standard AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, three-zone climate control, and important safety features. It makes sense if you want the redesigned Q5 at the lowest starting point, but it is the trim most likely to feel light on luxury and tech.
- Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and safety upgrades without jumping all the way to the top. You get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Vehicle Exit Assist, and access to more advanced tech options, making it the sweet spot for many used buyers.
- Prestige: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard Audi Virtual Cockpit, the latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system, a head-up display, and the Driver Assistance Package. Choose this if you want the most advanced tech and driver-assistance content in the lineup.
Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models, while the Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige.

- Inventory: There are 1,707 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.82% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,726, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $15,726 sits slightly below last year's $17,633.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point today. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained, because buyers in this segment tend to compare carefully across listings.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?
The 2018 Audi Q5 earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, but a Marginal rating for the headlight performance of certain versions of the vehicle.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection, automatic emergency braking, and cabin-preparation technology. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.
The headlight rating caveat is worth keeping in mind if you’re comparing trims, since certain versions were rated Marginal in that area.
Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.82% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model is the redesigned version, bringing the latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and greater overall sophistication.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Q5 with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-car price than a year ago, the 2018 is the right place to focus. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year’s inventory and look for a clean, well-maintained example near the low end of the range.
