Is the 2018 Acura TLX a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10. Owners consistently praise the luxury features, smooth performance, and stylish design, and the overview points to a refreshed face, a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety equipment. That mix makes it a strong fit if you want a compact luxury sedan with a more style-forward edge, especially in the A-Spec setup. With 33.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Acura TLX reliable?

User feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the car’s smooth performance and luxury features. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the TLX as competent and well built, with Honda build quality behind it. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the technology and transmission behavior on the specific car you choose are in good shape.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior bodywork. Focus on overall condition, signs of repair quality, and whether the car’s equipment and driver-assistance features work as intended. Because the TLX can be optioned quite differently, it’s worth confirming exactly which features are present on the specific car you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base TLX gives you 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and a standard safety suite, while the A-Spec adds a much more style-forward look with dark-chrome exterior details, sportier interior trim, and wider 19-inch wheels. The A-Spec is the standout if you want the most distinctive version.
• Powertrain: The base car uses a 2.4-liter engine with 206 hp and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, while V6 versions bring a 3.5-liter engine with 290 hp and a 9-speed transmission. The V6 is the stronger choice if you want quicker acceleration and a more muscular feel.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
• Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is quicker than before, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel complicated. If you care a lot about cabin tech, make sure the system suits you before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.4-liter setup is rated at 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the V6 returns 20 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. With AWD, the V6’s highway figure drops to 30 mpg.

Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: base TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with SH-AWD, and A-Spec.

Here's the short version:

• base TLX FWD: This is the least expensive way into the TLX and still gives you a strong equipment list, including LED headlights, heated sports seats, dual-zone climate control, and standard AcuraWatch safety tech. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and don’t need the extra power or flash of the V6 models.
• TLX V6: This is the best-value choice if you want the stronger 290-hp engine and quicker acceleration without jumping all the way to the sportier packages. It adds a more satisfying powertrain and keeps the TLX’s luxury-sedan character intact.
• TLX V6 with SH-AWD: Choose this if you want the V6 plus Acura’s torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system for added traction and a more confident feel. It’s the right pick if you live in a place with rough weather or simply want the most capable all-weather setup.
• A-Spec: This is the most distinctive and the one the expert review calls the real winner for 2018. It adds the sportiest look and feel, plus suspension and steering upgrades that make the TLX more engaging, so it’s the best choice if you want the most character and don’t mind paying more.

AcuraWatch is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are reserved for optional packages or higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 574 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,049, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $18,053 sits slightly below last year's $18,591.

That softer pricing suggests the TLX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you shop carefully now, you may have less downside left than you would with a newer, pricier luxury sedan. The model’s value proposition is helped by its strong equipment list and broad appeal to shoppers who want luxury features without paying new-car money.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?

The 2018 Acura TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, and IIHS gave it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, plus a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are limited to optional packages or higher trims. The main caveat is that the IIHS results are not perfect, and the braking performance noted in testing is something you should keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out for its refreshed face, faster infotainment, extra standard safety equipment, and the new A-Spec trim, which is described as the real winner for the year.

The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want the refreshed TLX with the strongest mix of value, safety content, and the standout A-Spec option. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2018 gives you a compelling balance of equipment and market value.

How does the 2018 Acura TLX compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Acura TLX 7.8/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10. The Accord is the stronger overall value play here, with a lower starting MSRP, better fuel economy, and more listings to choose from. The TLX counters with a more upscale luxury-sedan feel, stronger available performance, and a higher share of good or great deals. If you want the more premium badge and a sportier personality, the TLX makes sense; if you want the better all-around used-car bargain, the Accord is the easier recommendation.
