Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 4.2/5 user rating points to a truck that many owners feel delivers on its core promise. Drivers consistently praise its reliability, stylish design, and strong performance, while also noting good value and resale strength. The Tacoma’s use case is especially appealing if you want a midsize truck with off-road capability and everyday versatility, though you should expect some tradeoffs in cabin space and pricing. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly describes it as reliable, and the truck’s reputation for durability and long-term value shows up clearly in owner sentiment. Drivers also call it dependable and trouble-free in the ways that matter most for a used truck, especially if you want something you can count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying a premium for a truck that may still need careful inspection to confirm it has been maintained well.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with collision records. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used off-road or for towing. Focus on overall condition, maintenance evidence, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,671 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,061, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $25,961 sits slightly below last year's $26,421.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure than a year ago. Even so, the Tacoma’s pricing remains relatively strong, so a well-kept example should still hold value better than many trucks in the segment. If you plan to sell later, condition and documented history will matter a lot because buyers tend to pay up for clean, well-maintained Tacomas.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,805, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $25,961 average.
• It offers broad configurability for buyers who want a versatile midsize pickup.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better primary target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the smarter secondary path, especially if you find one in clean condition with good maintenance records.
