At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with past damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that could matter more on a performance-oriented used car.

What is the 2017 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $15,279 sits slightly below last year's $16,111.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you if you buy at the right number. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation when it is time to sell. Demand should stay supported by the model’s enthusiast appeal and broad owner satisfaction.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $14,502, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,279 average.
• It emphasizes strong performance with everyday usefulness.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2017 is the stronger primary choice because it combines solid owner satisfaction, a meaningful inventory pool, and a softer price trend. If your top priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in strong condition and can live with the older-year tradeoffs.
