CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Subaru WRX

Summary
With 356 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,837.00, 31.2% of 2015 Subaru WRXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Subaru WRX 5 / 5 stars.
53.7% of 2015 WRX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Subaru WRX stands out as the year the car was redesigned, bringing more interior space, better fuel efficiency, and a stiffer chassis. It also marked a shift in identity, since the car was no longer called an Impreza WRX and instead carried only the WRX name. Under the hood, it used a 2.0-liter turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine with 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive remained standard. A six-speed manual replaced the previous five-speed manual, while a CVT was available for buyers who wanted an automatic.
The 2015 model was offered in Base, WRX Premium, and WRX Limited trim levels, giving shoppers a range from simpler to more upscale equipment. Even the Base model included cruise control, while the Premium and Limited trims added more comfort and convenience features, and the Limited brought a leather interior. The car’s appeal was rooted in its enthusiast focus: it was quick, standard all-wheel drive, and designed to deliver the kind of driving experience that made the WRX name popular in the first place.
There are also a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The available automatic transmission can feel a bit laggy, and the car’s technology was already starting to show its age compared with newer rivals. Still, for buyers who want a practical sports sedan with strong performance and all-weather capability, the 2015 Subaru WRX remains distinctive.

This car is pretty awesome!! Of course its not the sti! But love the features, power, and comfortable. I bought the automatic so there is a 2 second lag when you punch it! But you have a manual option with the paddle shifters on the steering wheel that accommodates that! Other than that this car is very fast has I mode, for when your doing your every day driving, S mode is when you need a little bit more power to over pass a car in the freeway, and # S mode is when your ready to race or need that extra power switches from 6grs to 8grs. If your looking for more power and more tuning options get the Sti. Over all im happy with the wrx . Nothing really compares to it as far as power and torque! And what modifications you can do it!

The owner feedback also highlights dependable performance, strong value, and a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time. The repeated praise for how it handles in different conditions reinforces the sense that this is a car people trust for regular use.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and driven without abuse.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru WRX?
At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified, driven hard, or shows signs of uneven wear.
Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and how the car drives, since those details matter more when you’re shopping a performance-oriented used sedan.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru WRX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 352 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.93% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,256.72, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Subaru WRX's resale value?
The current average of $13,646 sits slightly below last year's $14,205.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may depend heavily on condition and mileage. If you keep the car clean, documented, and unmodified, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.93% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,597, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $13,646 average.
- It adds a more serious commuter feel with a stronger performance focus.
The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and strong owner satisfaction, the 2015 is the better starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for the next year’s added polish and a more performance-forward personality, the 2016 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2015 offers the stronger value play.
