Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The same reviews also describe it as comfortable and good to live with, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable used buy if you choose carefully. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the truck’s basic reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Frontier?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, frame, and mechanical condition, especially if the truck has been used for hauling or towing. Focus on overall wear and maintenance records, since condition matters a lot when you’re shopping a work-oriented pickup.

That softer pricing suggests the Frontier is still a value-oriented used truck, which can help keep it attractive to budget-conscious shoppers. If you buy at the right price and keep it in good condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The current market also shows enough demand to support steady interest from future buyers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $15,007, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,851 average.
• It stays close to the basics with a familiar, no-frills character.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better value-first alternative.
