Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the truck’s core toughness and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Frontier?

At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with accident records. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, frame, suspension, and interior wear, since these areas can reveal how hard the truck was used. Focus on overall condition and maintenance evidence, because a work-oriented pickup can vary a lot from one listing to the next.

That small increase suggests the Frontier has held its value fairly well in the near term. For a future seller, that kind of stability can be helpful because it points to steady buyer interest rather than sharp depreciation. The truck’s value-oriented reputation and practical appeal should continue to support demand, especially among shoppers looking for an affordable midsize pickup.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $15,223, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $16,169 average.
• It appeals to buyers who want a simple truck with a few small updates rather than a major redesign.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price stability, deal availability, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still keeps the Frontier’s straightforward, durable character.
