Is the 2017 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2017 Mazda CX-9 stands out for being a sportier choice than many rivals, with Mazda’s emphasis on driving feel shaping the experience. It also uses all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and Mazda pairs that hardware with Mi-Drive and Kinematic Posture Control to help the SUV feel more composed in corners. For you, that means this is a three-row crossover that leans toward style and engagement rather than maximum space.

That tradeoff is the key to its appeal: it aims to feel more premium and more fun to drive than many family SUVs, even if that comes with some compromises. 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2017 Mazda CX-9 is presented as a composed, premium-leaning SUV with Mazda’s driving-focused hardware helping it feel settled in corners. It also uses all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, which supports the impression of a well-engineered package.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle’s condition matches its reputation, especially because a meaningful share of listings may have prior incident history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-9?

At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership patterns. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to bodywork quality, alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model is known for a firmer ride and a more style-first mission, focus on overall condition and how well the SUV has been maintained rather than just the odometer reading.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $15,331 sits slightly below last year's $15,980.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well and keep the SUV in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later. The CX-9’s distinct driving character can support demand among shoppers who want something more engaging than the typical family hauler.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,204, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,331 average.
• It offers a quieter, more upscale cabin with strong value appeal.

The bottom line: Choose the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and availability. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you value its more-for-less positioning and can live with an older model year.
