CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Mazda CX-9

Summary
With 245 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,507, 31.4% of 2015 Mazda CX-9s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Mazda CX-9 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Mazda CX-9 stands out as a three-row crossover that blends family usefulness with Mazda’s usual emphasis on style and driving feel. Owners praise its spacious cabin and the amount of equipment it offers for the price, while also appreciating that it looks sporty and luxurious rather than purely utilitarian. The third row adds to its appeal for buyers who need extra seating without giving up a more upscale presence.
At the same time, the 2015 CX-9 is not without compromises. Some owners mention that the ride can feel a bit stiff, which fits with its sportier character. There is also a desire among some buyers for upgraded features such as a Bose sound system and built-in navigation, suggesting that while the CX-9 is well equipped overall, a few convenience and audio features may still be missed by shoppers looking for a more premium experience.

The car overall is great, plenty of space and fairly comfortable seating for 7 passengers. The only things I wish it had is the Bose sound system and navigation.

Third row sitting for the extended family, Bluetooth, navigation system, handsfree calling, heated seats, sunroof, backup camera, comfort and appealing. I liked it so much I bought it.

There are so many features. Im in awe over the CX-9. I was looking for a third row seat but got so many perks. I love having heated seats first thing in the morning. There is so much room. It was so easy to hook my phone up through Bluetooth. Definitely worth the money.

The amount of amenities you get with this car for the money is incredible. You get the third row without it looking like a bus. It’s still sporty and luxurious looking. For the price of this car, you get so much bang for your buck. I went from a 2 door convertible to the Mazda CX-9 and I’m in love with this car. I just wish I made the switch sooner. I wanted a larger car for my 100lb Golden Retriever without it looking like a Mom-mobile.

Owners consistently praise the spacious cabin, the third row, and the amount of equipment you get for the price. The model also appeals if you want a family vehicle that still looks sporty and upscale rather than purely practical. With 31.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Mazda CX-9 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise centered on the vehicle’s overall value and the confidence buyers seem to have in it over time. That said, used-car reliability always depends on how well a specific example has been maintained, so a careful inspection still matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Mazda CX-9?
At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Focus on overall condition, signs of past repairs, and whether the vehicle’s wear matches its mileage and asking price.

What is the 2015 Mazda CX-9's resale value?
The current average of $9,497 sits slightly below last year's $10,832.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the current pricing environment means condition and documentation matter even more, because well-kept examples are more likely to stand out. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $13,364, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $9,497 average.
- It brings a quieter, more upscale cabin with a stronger near-luxury feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2015 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling cabin and a more upscale presentation, the 2016 is the better alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2015 is the more practical path.
