What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned car. Pay close attention to bodywork quality, panel alignment, tire wear, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and equipment, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premiere trim gets front-wheel drive, an adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights with LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the Sync 3 infotainment system on an 8-inch touchscreen. The Select adds leather upholstery, power steering-wheel adjustment, 4-way power lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. The Reserve adds the Select Plus Package features, the power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and front-seat ventilation. The Black Label sits above those as a special edition with upgraded leather and wood trim.
• Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic and is described as smooth and fun to drive. A bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 is available with 350 hp in front-wheel-drive form and 400 hp with all-wheel drive, and it brings much stronger acceleration. A hybrid version is also mentioned, pairing a 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is part of the Select Plus Package, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 runs on an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as fast and intuitive, and it replaces the older setup with a more polished interface.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter front-wheel-drive model is rated at 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is estimated at 21 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. The hybrid is rated at 41 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, Black Label.

Here's the short version:

• Premiere: This is the entry point, but it still brings a strong equipment list, including Sync 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, adaptive suspension, and several comfort and convenience features. It makes sense if you want the MKZ experience at the lowest starting price.
• Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, more seat and steering adjustments, ambient lighting, and useful convenience upgrades. If you want a more luxury-leaning cabin without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to focus on.
• Reserve: This trim adds the Select Plus Package features, the power trunk, 19-inch wheels, and front-seat ventilation. It’s the right pick if you want a more fully equipped MKZ and are willing to pay for it.
• Black Label: This special top trim adds upgraded leather and wood trim, making it the most upscale version in the lineup. It suits you if you want the most premium presentation and are comfortable paying for it.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are part of the Select Plus Package, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control and other advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 432 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,797, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?

The current average of $13,322 sits slightly below last year's $13,664.

That tells you the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future value, the current pricing suggests the MKZ is holding in a fairly stable range rather than appreciating.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns five-star overall safety ratings from both NHTSA and IIHS, though both organizations gave it second-best scores in their total front-impact protection and small-overlap frontal-offset test, respectively.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The MKZ includes standard safety equipment along with MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit usage for a second driver. It can also be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection. On the driver-assistance side, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available through the Select Plus Package, and the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability.

The main caveat is that some advanced safety features are not standard, so you’ll want to verify exactly which packages are installed on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned front end, an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and the Sync 3 infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MKZ with stronger power, better tech, and a value-oriented luxury setup, the 2017 is the right target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare nearby years and shop whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
