Used 2017 Lexus RX for Sale nearSan Jose, CA

How much does the 2017 Lexus RX cost?

Prices have softened 3.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,391 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Lexus RX earns a 4.6/5 from owners and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its luxury features, comfort, smooth ride, and value for money. The RX also gets credit for its premium interior materials and polished driving feel, while the tech and Remote Touch Interface draw repeated criticism. That lines up with the overview: you get a refined luxury crossover with added equipment, but not the most practical cargo setup or the most intuitive technology.

With 38.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its comfort and overall dependability. The expert notes also emphasize Lexus’ reliability reputation and resale strength, which reinforces the RX’s long-term ownership appeal. The powertrain and chassis tuning are described as composed and capable, which supports the sense that this is a crossover you can count on.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the technology and equipment still suit your needs as the miles add up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus RX?

At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and repair quality. Because the RX’s technology can be frustrating, it also makes sense to test every major infotainment and driver-assistance function before you buy. Focus on overall condition and equipment operation, since the model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort, features, and a polished ownership experience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The F Sport package adds adaptive suspension, sport seats, 20-inch wheels, a unique gauge cluster, steering wheel, and shifter, while the base form is more ordinary and less distinctive.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 295 hp and 267 lb-ft, and the 8-speed automatic is described as quick and well matched to the engine.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes dynamic cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection; blind-spot monitoring is not standard.
• Infotainment: The available 12.3-inch display is a major upgrade over the 8-inch setup, but it brings the remote-touch interface, which is widely criticized for being unintuitive.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2017 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2017 Lexus RX is offered in 1 trim level: RX 350.

Here's the short version:

The RX 350 is the trim to focus on if you want the core Lexus comfort-and-luxury formula without overcomplicating the search. It already delivers the smooth ride, premium cabin, and strong safety equipment that define the model, and the expert notes make clear that the F Sport package is the major upgrade if you want a more engaging setup. If you want the best-value path, start with a well-kept RX 350 and only move up if you specifically want the F Sport’s suspension and sportier hardware.

The standard safety package is a meaningful part of the RX 350’s appeal, so make sure any used example includes the full suite of driver-assistance features you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus RX?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,391 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $23,441 sits slightly below last year's $24,253.

That decline suggests the RX has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means there may be less upside than in a rising market, but the drop is not severe enough to suggest weak demand. The RX still benefits from the kind of ownership satisfaction that tends to support steady buyer interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Lexus RX safe?

The 2017 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA, though NHTSA also recorded four-star ratings in the individual overall front, driver front, and passenger front tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes dynamic cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. The RX also adds rain-sensing wipers and auto-braking for the parking-assist system, which strengthens its everyday safety and convenience story. One caveat is that blind-spot monitoring is not standard, so you may need to verify whether a specific used example has that equipment.

Should I buy a 2017 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The F Sport package becomes available across the lineup, and the Safety System + Package is standard.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $22,004, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $23,441 average.
• It prioritizes comfort and value with a smooth-riding, safety-focused luxury feel.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $25,897, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $23,441 average.
• It adds a three-row layout for buyers who need extra seating.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the best all-around choice if you want the RX’s comfort, safety, and added equipment without paying more for the next year’s extra seating. If price is your top priority, the 2016 is the smarter value play; if you need more passenger capacity, move to the 2018.
