CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lexus ES

Summary
With 621 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,779, 33.7% of 2017 Lexus ES models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lexus ES 5 / 5 stars.
44.9% of 2017 ES models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lexus ES stands out as a comfort-first luxury sedan that emphasizes refinement over flash. Lexus positioned the ES as a quiet, pampering car with a soft ride and a luxurious interior, and the model’s front-wheel-drive layout and Camry-based roots helped it deliver that relaxed character. For buyers who want a reliable, affordable, and well-equipped sedan, the ES has broad appeal, though it is not aimed at drivers seeking performance or a more aggressive design.
For 2017, the ES carried over the sixth-generation formula with a roomier cabin, improved materials, and a more contemporary design. It offered the ES 350 with a 3.5-liter V6, and the ES 300h hybrid paired a 2.5-liter inline-four with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system and a CVT. Standard equipment was generous, including dual-zone automatic climate control, NuLuxe upholstery, a power moonroof, and a rear-view camera, while available features such as leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, navigation, a Mark Levinson stereo, and adaptive cruise control added more luxury. Lexus also offered blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and a lane-departure warning system at a time when many competitors still reserved such features for their flagship models.
The 2017 model year also benefited from added standard safety features and updated infotainment software, with the system controlled by a mouse-like console controller. That said, the interface was still part of the older setup, and Lexus did not fully address its complexity until later. Even so, the ES remained a strong value in the used luxury-sedan market, combining comfort, equipment, and a reputation for durability in a package that is easy to live with.

Very well appointed with lots of leg and arm room compared to our 2010 ES 350. The only thing I really dont care for is the analog clock. It reminds me a lot of my old Mercury Milan. Overall, this car is an excellent value.

Is the 2017 Lexus ES a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, luxurious interior, and reliability, and they also call out its comfort and build quality. For you, that means it fits especially well if you want a quiet, comfort-first luxury sedan rather than something tuned for performance. With 33.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value to be found in the market.
Is the 2017 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and drivers describe the car as dependable and trouble-free. That lines up with the model’s reputation for durability and the kind of ownership experience you can count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s core reliability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus ES?
At 45.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with past damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on body panels, paint consistency, and signs of uneven wear that could point to prior repairs. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition inside and out, since a luxury sedan like this should feel well cared for if it has been properly maintained.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus ES?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 621 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 45.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,364, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $21,770 sits slightly above last year's $21,670.
That small increase suggests the market has stayed stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For you as a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern is helpful because it points to predictable demand and less risk of sudden value erosion. The model’s comfort-focused appeal and strong owner satisfaction should continue to support interest from used buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 45.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $19,913, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $21,770 average.
- It emphasizes comfort and quietness with a low-stress luxury feel.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall market signal and are comfortable paying more for the current-year example, the 2017 is the better primary target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
