How much does the 2017 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 9.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,247 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.6/5 user-rated SUV with an 9.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, stylish interior, and comfort, and many also like the available V6 power. The Sorento’s broad appeal comes through in its balance of comfort, practicality, and refinement, especially if you want a well-rounded midsize SUV rather than a vehicle that leans hard into one specialty. It also stands out as a strong fit if you value a family-friendly crossover with upscale touches and everyday usability.

33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable, with praise centered on comfort, smooth driving manners, and a generally trouble-free ownership experience. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Kia engineered this Sorento to exceed demanding warranty expectations, which reinforces the sense that it’s built with long-term ownership in mind. The cost-effectiveness coverage adds that Kia has spent years engineering its vehicles to exceed warranty programs, and it highlights the brand’s strong quality reputation.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some owners reported occasional engine issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Pay close attention to the third row and cargo area if you plan to use the Sorento as a family hauler, since condition and usability there can matter more than headline features. It’s also smart to confirm that the infotainment and driver-assistance equipment work as expected, especially on higher-trim examples.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L to SX Limited, and the base L is the most stripped-down version. The safety content shows that the automatic emergency braking system, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning are available on all trim levels except the basic L trim, while the LX V6 adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and the SX Limited gets a 360-degree surround-view camera. If you want the best mix of equipment and value, the mid-to-upper trims are the ones to focus on.
• Powertrain: You can get a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6. The V6 is the strongest choice and can tow up to 5,000 pounds, while all three engines use a 6-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available on most trims.
• Safety package: The Sorento offers automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning, with blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert on the LX V6 and a 360-degree surround-view camera on the SX Limited. The basic L trim misses several of those systems.
• Infotainment: Kia’s UVO system is available for most versions, and it supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri, Pandora, Yelp, and connected services. The system also includes a parking minder and smartphone-based access to emergency and roadside-assistance features, though some owners wished for a bigger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: With all-wheel drive, the V6 is expected to return 19 mpg in combined driving, and the 2018 comparison data shows the V6 at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, SX Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more because several key safety features are not included here. It makes sense only if your budget is tight and you’re comfortable giving up equipment.
• LX: This is the value-oriented choice if you want a lower price without staying at the very bottom of the range. It gives you a more usable starting point than the L, and it’s the trim to consider if you want a practical Sorento without chasing luxury features.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and a stronger equipment mix. If you want the Sorento’s balance of power, comfort, and features without going all the way to the top, this is the one to target.
• SX: This trim steps up to the 290-horsepower V6 and adds a more premium feel. It’s the right pick if you want stronger performance and a more upscale experience.
• SX Limited: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest cabin presentation and the most complete feature set, including the 360-degree surround-view camera. Choose it if you want the Sorento at its most fully equipped.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, while the basic L misses several driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, compare, and negotiate.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,247 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,877, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $10,877 sits slightly below last year's $12,066.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about where the market has settled. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be starting from a lower acquisition cost, which can help offset depreciation later. The Sorento’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2017 Kia Sorento earns Top Safety Pick+ status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star crash test rating from the federal government.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sorento’s safety package includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning, with blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert available on the LX V6 and a 360-degree surround-view camera reserved for the SX Limited. The basic L trim misses several of those driver-assistance features, so trim choice matters if safety tech is a priority.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety, value, and a well-rounded feature set in a way that makes it one of the best vehicles in its segment.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,775, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,877 average.
• It feels more upscale and refined than a typical family hauler.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better all-around pick. If your main goal is to spend less up front, the 2016 is the better budget alternative.
